Question about hard throttle pedal
Sometimes when driving my '72 GTO, it seems the gas pedal gets harder to press and the response is just not there. It's like you have to press the pedal further to get response and once I do, it takes off like crazy. Is this a fuel starvation issue? I've surmised that it could be a fuel pump or a fuel tank pickup related issue. What say you?

Incorrect throttle return spring? Something in the linkage binding and then releasing?

I seem to recall having an issue like this relating to a loose motor mount.

As stated in the above post, it sounds like a bad driver's side motor mount allowing the engine to rise on that side.
When the motor rises up on the driver's side it counter acts your application of the throttle and stretches out the throttle return spring even more which is why the gas pedal feels harder to press down at times. You can check this very easy by popping the hood, placing the car in gear and giving it throttle while on brake, look at the motor thru the gap in the rear of the hood. If it is a failed motor mount don't just replace one, do both sides. I have seen motors rise up so much on the driver's side that the fan hits the rad shroud and cracks a Chunk out of it! You should also check the driver's side transmission crossmember insulator as that may have gone fully south Also!

Could be the secondary carb flaps or the throttle blades are still locked out cause the choke hasn't fully came off yet. Throttle will feel stiff and underpowered.
