Default Man-A-Fre

I just read a 1968 article about Man-A-Fre "Carb injection" manifolds (each venturi fed just one cylinder). I know they sold a bunch of them for SBC, but I see they also offered one for the OHC six. Anybody know if they worked well on the cammer?

Jack, I ran one in the late 80’s and did not have good luck with it. The same engine in the same car slowed down 2 tenths and 3 mph in the 1/4 mile. As an added bonus my Street mpg dropped by a third! This was in a 67 Lemans, mostly stock 230 with a turbo 350 automatic and 3.55 gears.

Thinking it over I believe the balance passages between the runners was to small, and I was running mercury marine’s version of the 2 GC carbs. They are pretty as they are aluminum bodied. The set up looked good, but hood clearance was an issue on the front aircleaner. I had to sacrifice a solid flat hood and ran a wide hood scoop to cover the offset and very forward hole needed in the hood.
I also think I needed to deactivate the enrichment valves in the carbs, didn’t think about it until after I sold the complete set up around 25 years ago.
It was an attempt to get that Lemans with a full interior into the high 13’s. It failed, but I think with some work it would make a good manifold. But I wasn’t willing to do it. I have some ads that came with the manifold when I found it in a now long closed Detroit speed shop.

Interesting stuff. Thanks.
The article I read was an interview with Man-A-Fre's owner. I was surprised at the amount of modification made to 2GC carbs- including major downsizing of main jets, down about 8 numbers from normal. Any chance your 2GCs weren't properly modified? The dyno results in the article showed a good power increase over the Sprint 4-bbl setup.

I can assure you my Carbs were NOT modified properly. Like I said I did not deactivate the Power Valves, I did downsize the main jets, but I felt a noticeable power loss around 4000 rpm for 200-300 rpm. Then it would pick back up.

Like I said I had had these Aluminum Bodied 2GC's laying around for some time. I had bought them thinking of making a custom tri power for my GTO at the time forgetting that they all had chokes. So they were just sitting there. I did not fully think thru the modifications they may have needed other than leaning them out for feeding just 1 cylinder.
