It was 14 body mounts on our '66. We had to get at the cage nuts from above. Hell of a job.

I sort of figured it wouldn't be a walk in the park. Seems the jobs I decide to do always end up falling in to the category of

Yeah my experience is hit them many times with your favorate penetrating oil, starting several weeks before you start, and you may get lucky on only have 1 or 2 of the captured nuts spin and have to be accessed from the top, I have always removed the carpeting and sound proofing so a great deal of heat can be applied to the bolt heads. Have a fire extinguisher handy as the old rubber bushings and any oil in the area can ignite.
Good luck is all I can send you other than those tips.

I can use all the tips members have. This will be a first time for me doing this so education goes a long way..........it will be another month before I tackle this project. I just finished installing a 4 speed and power steering and boxed rear control arms and rear sway bar and sway bar end links and valve stem seals and new carb and fuel pump and alternator and clutch and ........................

I found that the 4 rear mounts were the worst, the bolts were rusted and the trunk sheet metal needed to be cut thru to expose the nut. the hole could be patched up later. I would try rattling the bolt with a impact wrench at low pressure to try and loosen the rust first before putting a bunch of torque on it. Too much zorch and the nut will break free, then you will need to get at it from the top side.

If you can locate the mounts from the trunk side in advance, add plenty of anti-rust stuff over time to help loosen it up.

George

Arrow Other known processes for rusted body bolts...

If needed wherever possible locate bushing/mount point within the body and drill an aprox 1/8" hole above it to allow getting some penetrating spray on top of the bolt area.

If all the above fail to work a 3 sided cut in the floor at the mount area will also allow you to fold/peal back the metal to access the cage/bolt. Then once corrected the floor can be welded back down.

BP Buster is your friend!

Cool BACK IN THE DAY...

After loosing so many files after my PC crash and then the "Bucket" debacle there are so many images I lost.
However while recently looking at a few old back up disc, I came across a few lost images.

This is one...

Cool Hanging out...

...I knew when I first saw this 11 millionth Pontiac for 1966 photo, clearly promoting the upcoming seat-belt mandate and/or the safety and strength of the belts.

Well in a recent accretion it shows a different view and verbiage reflecting the seat-belts strength, attempting to let the public know they are safe!
Also reflecting the perfect balance of the OHC 6 over the front heavy V8's

Those were the coolest hubcaps. To me, anyway. They're pretty hard to come by as well. Can't tell the colour of the car of course, but if it was black I'll bet it was pretty sharp looking.

Thumbs up 1966 CUSTOM WHEEL DISC

Agreed the Custom wheel Disc are very seldom seen.
I too like the spoke look and was considering running a set,
However once I saw them on a few cars I didn't like how far they stood outward.

Straight on they look amazing,
I just thought the distance of the center cap off the wheel was excessive.

The last image I thew in to keep with the theme of this post,
Some sort of pre-production exercise with a 1966 LEMANS OHC SPRINT Drop Top,
adorned with GTO front end treatments and some sort of turbine looking wheel disc,
It has a similar shape and cone size to the Custom Disc.

Would have been cool if the Sprint package included the scooped hood

Wow, so many of these pics flood my memory with times of sitting across the desk from a sales(person) and looking at the brochure and like a kid in a candy store I'll take this and this and this and oh don't forget this and you could see your car come together in your head. Look at the wheel cover options!!

Now, my wife is looking at a Dodge Durango.........one option is $2500, the other $1000. That's it.

And the color choices are poor at best. Red, white, silver, and black of course.
No blue, no green, no gold, no yellow,

For me, take me back to an ala carte menu and let me choose AND PERSONALIZE my vehicle. NOPE! NO more, the bean counters decided not
to hear the consumer or just yell back, LET THEM EAT CAKE!

Don't tell me things have gotten better with time. In my world, yes some, but car buying has turned in to a very boring tedious task now.
