If you want a more formal look then the vinyl roof. I have a 67 GTO with the vinyl roof. I like them GTO's without the vinyl roof better. Looks like they are going fast while standing still. Just my opinion. For a firebird I would say no.

I had a 67 GTO, black with a black vinyl roof and parchment interior, it looked great. The roof dressed it up, without it, in kinda looks naked. Depends what kind of look you are after. It was plenty fast, and did it with class. I dont think I would do it unless it was a heavy options car.

Very subjective topic, if you like the look, do it. If it came from the factory and you are restoring it, do it. If you are doing it because other people like vinyl roofs, don't listen to other people, you are the one who has to look at it every day, make it look the way you want it to!

I saw a 69 Camaro when we were over for the US Nationals that had a black one and also a black hood and it looked good. I like the way it looks now also, so I might leave it for now and see how I feel.

Vinyl roofs are a real bad idea. They let water in but don't let it out.

Yes in 1967 this was true but most guys don't drive their cars in the winter or weather anymore.

This is STRICKLY my opinion only, I am a firm believer in it's your car do what you want.

But since you asked, I would not put a vinyl roof on it and take the money saved and put a fiberglass T/A hood on that car, with maybe the tops of the scoops, roof and trunk with a nice charcoal stripe, just something about those cowl ind. hoods on Pontiacs that kill it for me.

Again, just my opinion.

BTW, nice job on the rest of the car and getting looking good again.

My opinion, which you asked for.........vinyl tops do not belong on cars. They were originally developed to make the car appear to be a convertible. Unlike a convertible top, they serve no purpose, other than to trap moisture and destroy your roof. And look goofy while doing it. Never liked them and never will.

I`m not going to make it a T/A clone, decided that when I chose the colour and I don`t like stripes. the cowl induction is for a purpose not for looks. found it made the car more consistent when bracket racing.

thanks for your thoughts though, appreciated.

Do a gator grain top off a E-body Mopar. Im serious.

I think Mopar even had Turtle and Snake tops. Any one of those in black would look amazing.

Go ahead, put a vinyl top back on:

Link 1.

Link 2.

Neither of those were rust belt cars & one was a "California" car people like to brag about being rust free. I'll never put a vinyl top back on a car...
