Default 65 an 66 door interchangeability? Need to know real quick!!!!

I think the answer is yes, but I need to know if the driver door form a 65 gp will interchange with a driver door from a 66 gp? Same with the pass door....

Yes. They are the same. 65 and66 have different mouldings so trim holes will need patched and redrilled.

Thanks for the quick reply. I picked up a nice pass door shell from a 66 gp today. The car also had a nice pass quarter. I might go back and have them cut it our for me...

Question Are they the same????

I don't want to contradict here but I'm not so sure they are EXACTLY the same?

I have a '65 Parisienne Convertible and a '66GP and I have noticed that there are minor differences in how the glass runners fit and I think something about the lock is slightly different.

I have no doubt at all that the doors will bolt straight onto the car but (maybe) you might need to use the glass runners and lock out of the '66 door.

Others might agree or disagree with this? I'll be interested to know for sure

Ian

I wouldn't be surprised if the Parisienne was different from a Grand Prix, not because of the different years, but because I thought the Parisienne was chalk full o Chevy parts...

Either way, I guess I'll find out.

Yeah, that crossed my mind after I typed the previous reply. If you look at a '65 or '66 front fender, and compare them between a Parisienne and a Catalina/Bonneville/GP etc, you would think they are the same. Well, the outer skin is the same but the welded in sections are different. Just small subtle differences but I can assure you, they are NOT directly interchangeable. They won't bolt up right because essentially they were adapting Pontiac parts to fit a Chev Radiator support panel. And the inner guards are different too

But on a door, I can't see why they would have changed things. I stress I'm only saying all this from memory but if I recall correctly I think the '65 door was slightly more complicated in how things go together. Remember that '65 was the first year of curved side glass so maybe later on for '66 they had worked out how to make it simpler. (Read cheaper).

Anyway, when you get the doors, it would be interesting to see if they are the same or have minor differences. That is apart from the holes which of course are different because of the side trim.

It seems to me that I remember a hinge fit difference at least on the 2 dr htps.

the inner door frame at this edge is different to 65 doors !! The outes skin is same but the part between the both door hinges area is more wide pressing the door skin at teh outer door edge out like 65 doors are .. if you need i will make some more pics from inner side

sorry, but let me say no!! the 65 Catalina, Bonneville, GP, canadian Parisienne door 2door outer shelfs are 100% same but
66 has another inner frame in the shelf that bend the skin a little more out to the front fender, because the 66 front fender is a different one as 65!

compare your old and new door at the inner side to front fender area and you will see what i mean ...

I've got a 65 GP door in Vegas if the 66 doesn't work out.

I'm hoping to get the doors swapped within the next 10 days or so. I'll post on any problem I encounter.

I'm never going to find out if there are any differences. I went back to the yard where I got the door and took a closer look at the Grand Prix I took it from. Someone wrote "66 Grand Prix" on the quarter, but the door and cowl tags show it's a '65. My lucky day???
