That is mind-boggling why someone would do that. He must have pulled all the underdash ducting and hardware too, since it mates up with the A/C "suitcase" on the firewall. I know this ins't the case here but if I was looking at that car and had no idea of its history from the prior seller here on this thread, I would logically assume there was something suspicious going on.

Its a shame. That car was all there when I had it. I belive I bought it out of Maryland and the honeycombs were on it when I got it. But it was all matching and everything worked. The onlt reason I sold it is cause I found a white over white SD Trans Am with 20,000 miles on it in Miami. That was a three owner car all of them being in the Sheriffs Department. But that car had every piece of paper work since new. Every oil change reciept. Not one of my best moves selling that one but when push comes to shove sometimes the toys have to go.

I have seen several no a/c cars have the a/c added but not too many done this way unless they were turned into drag cars. people do weird things, but for someone to buy this car for what it is and to check originality and then tear it apart is just strange.

The seller responded to my email asking about the A/C parts. Looks like all he has is the firewall side evaporator housing.

That's a lot of parts hunting that is going to be needed to make that car right again.

IMHO. I would do other things to make it right like exhaust plus carb... AC not being one, as that's my low priority.

I think that is is a healthy sale for a 73 SD Auto/Air car. Last year at mecum a BG auto/Air SD went for low 100's. Also - keep in mind that Barett jackson has a 10% buyer premium so someone just spent $138K on a Auto/Air 73 SD. Which is the higest price that I have heard of for an automatic car (Though I only periodically look at prices and have no idea what prices are for private sales). IMO $138K is 4sp range.

From the auction... "It has the correct 455 Super Duty engine, with the correct heads, intake, carburetor and block."

Does that mean that it is correct...but not original to the car?

I don't think that 45,100 is low. I think its inline. The 60 something that it sold for a couple years ago was too high. IMO

Buyer premium is already included in the price they show on their website.

Did you see the 1974 4 speed SD455 with 19,000 miles go for $101,200 with commission?
