friend is looking at a 79 WS6 car that is advertised as all original. power steering, power brakes (4 wheel discs), auto, hard top, power locks, AC, the works. the seller is advertising the engine as an original "PWH" block.

can anybody clue me in as to what the "PWH" designation stands for?

I believe PWH is the engine code. The WH 400 was the last Pontiac 400 produced. Being that it was the last performance engine, I think it would have only been offered in W72/WS6 and Tenth Anniversary Trans Ams. Hopefully someone else will chime in and explain with much better detail.
Also is the car manual? I believe the 400's only came with manual transmisions in 79.
It would be a good idea to get the VIN and any other #'s you can get off the car and post them up. I'm sure someone here can verify that it is in fact a WS6 car.

PWH, I believe is also the "code". I think I've seen a few restored 79 'birds (or some originals) that had a PWH decal on the front passenger side of the block/head.

All 79 'birds equipped with the 400 were 4-speeds, without exception (unless the car has been altered). They were all the W72 T/A 6.6 engine (220-HP ?). It was possible to order 4-wheel disc brakes without getting the WS6 package I believe.

If it's an automatic, it will have the "lesser" 403 Olds engine without exception (unless the car has been altered), which was rated at 180-HP I think. If this is the case, the PWH would not apply. 403 equipped 79 T/A's don't bring as much money as 400/4-speed examples.

my buddy looked at the car last night and emailed me the window sticker today. it's a 2 owner, fully optioned WS6 400 4 speed. i don't know how many miles are on it but i'll post here asking about it's value when he gets back with me. is there anything he should be watching out for on an otherwise immaculate looking car?
