Most cars it seems were built in sequence in one short run starting on or about February 28, 1975 and ending a day or two later in early March. It is believed that each GM Canada Sales Zone was alotted one or two cars to commemorate the Canada Cup which is an International Hockey Championship. (Not the Olympics which is a different LeMans, a 1976 model) The best information we have is that there were 48 such zones in Canada at the time. Like the special Can Am never being exported to Canada, the Canada Cup was never exported to the USA. An even rarer model was produced for the Quebec Market, Blue and White with Fleur-dis-lis in place of Maple Leaf. All cars produced in Oshawa, ON.

Standard power was 350 2 bbl sbc with THM, 350 4 bbl sbc and 400 4bbl Pontiac as options. All other regular options were available but the base model was the Sport Coupe with GT option and special paint and graphics, white interiors with black accents. Most we find are fairly well optioned. As already noted the majority of these cars are 350 sbc powered and the majority were also produced with the rear quarter window louvers as opposed to the formal opera window, both treatments standard on the Sport Coupe at the customer's discretion.

Hope this helps.
Ray,

I'm no expert an the 73-77, but are you absolutely sure about the Can Am not being sold here? I remember one very clearly, on the lot beside the T/As at Hamilton Motor Products on Queenston Ave. Red interior. I saw that car several times in the Hamilton/Dundas area up until the early 80s.

Stu, The Can Am was not imported into Canada by GM Canada. Having said that individual dealers could have done so.

In the period 1964 to 1968 the GTO was not imported into Canada by GM Canada either. Pontiac dealers sold the A Body Beaumont Sport Deluxe or SD396 in Canada as it's performance car BUT many dealers chose to import the GTO and sell it on an as ordered basis. In fact you could do this with any US model if you could find a willing dealer. Typically high end models like the Bonneville, Grand Prix and GTO were the ones imported.

With HMP being so close to Buffalo and the border I will not doubt the information you have supplied as HMP had (Closed now by GM) a perfomance oriented reputation and it's location would have made bringing a Can Am accross the border relatively easy.

As HMP was closed down by GM in the recent restructuring a number of us made the trip in June '09 in my '73 GT to the final GTO Association of Ontario gathering there. Bill Markowski brought his '73 GT also Oshawa built over that day from the Buffalo area too.

Ray,

Thanks for the reply. That makes sense. Growing up around there, HMP did have that reputation. At least one RA IV Judge that I know of and the yellow COPO 427 Chevelle that was in Waterdown for years came from there. Kind of sad to hear the dealer is closed; I haven't really been home to Hamilton since joining the Navy, retired in June, bet its different.

Stu, just a quick "Off Topic". Any word on when Halifax and Athabaskan will get underway for Haiti. I work in International Aid and Development, we have an office in Port-au-Prince and we fund hospitals and orphanages there. Would be nice to know and pass on to our people there when we can expect to see the Canadian flag in the harbour.

Ray,

HMCS HALIFAX and HMCS ATHABASKAN sailed yesterday, they delayed only long enough to load up groceries and recall crew; HMCS TORONTO will follow shortly. The first Army units departed Gagetown by air yesterday, there is more to follow from there also. DART is being sent too, no info on their timings.
I expect the Navy`s mission will be very similar to the one I went on to New Orleans post Katrina; the ships can provide a lot of power generation capacity and can produce tons of fresh water per hour. In these situations often more lives are saved by preventing the follow on typhoid outbreak than by first response. The Army`s tasks will be very different and I don`t envy them.

Thanks for that Stu. It is good to know. We have had a terrible time communicating with our people. The "social network" like this board and others have helped us get information in and out. Unfortunately Haiti is a dificult place to operate at the best of times. We are doing all we can.

Great looking car! Perhaps you could also post it here on the '73 - '77 ABody Forum?

Interesting, used the link in your quote reply and worked fine, browser issue perhaps?

Try one of these from the BING search link http://www.bing.com/search?q=The+ABo...0f11e0644052ec

Or use your Fave Search engine w this as the subject "The ABody Resto forum and classifieds"

See you there!
