Default Custom Oil Pan

Here's the rub... With this custom oil pan, I have no way of knowing how much oil should go in the engine. From what I have been reading, the best way to determine that amount is to fill the pan to the baffle level (keeping track of amount) then add filter capacity and another 1/2 to 1 quart for engine circulation. Does this sound like a reasonable method?

By the way, the baffle welded into this pan is at the same depth as the baffle in the stock Chevy II pan that was used as a donor/template to make this pan.
