After 25+ years in the Air Force we retired down here in Florida where my wife grew up and where most of her family is... so even though we have nice weather and nice roads there is the humidity to deal with and I've seen bare metal rust over night. Dynomax mufflers are good quality IMO but they are galvanized steal and after looking at them, and getting them ceramic coated at a cost I can live with, it seemed like the right thing to do. Better to do it now than after they're TIG'd on the car!

If you can fit them, 17792 are a little bit longer with a 16" long case and 3" in/out. Should be a little quieter than a 14" case

I looked at those but the case is 5.5" vs 4.25"... just got the news yesterday that the 17743s are back from being ceramic coated. Install should be this weekend if schedules allow.

Mufflers Installed!
Finally got the 17743s on the car this past Saturday...
The Dynomax case is a little deeper than the Pypes Racepro. But they fit fine and the ceramic coating will help them last a long time!

Decibel Readings
So I downloaded this free dB tool... Decibel 10th.
The readings with the RacePro Mufflers 25 feet behind and at a 45* angle from the back of the car were 93 decibels at idle. The new reading with the 17743s at the same distance were 81 decibels at idle! The car still has a deep muscle car rumble... just more refined now and not race car loud. Mission accomplished!

Oldfml72 are the new 17743 3" internally also? I remember reading they were actually 2.5 inches, and just the inlet and outlet are 3" flared. What are yours? I have a complete 3" system and not interested in a reduction muffler. Thanks

I was concerned about that... so we called Dynomax. And while it is true that their normal 17743 reduces down to 2.5" internally they were able to source an old set for me that were indeed 3" all the way through. But their production 17743 is 2.5" afterall.
Another option would be Hooker's new stainless mufflers... they are reasonably priced but I'm unsure if they have a turbo design inside or if they are straight through like the others mentioned in this post. If they had been available when I started this project I would have tried them, but I'm very happy with the sound of the 17743s.

Some guys on the Chevelles forums use these Magnaflows on high HP motors and claim they're almost too quiet. The are a very large case so it would be a tight fit.
