Grimes in Alpharetta would be close. They have an engine dyno and a good Pontiac reputation.

They look like SDs. There should be a letter cast into one side of the rod shaft from A-G (I think "G" but I'm just going by memory.) There was some concern that some of the letter codes, which represent production runs, had some stretch issues.

Default SD-455 Rods

I have a set of NOS J & K rods that I bought 10 years ago for $500.00. That was before the easy availability of all the different forged rods now on the market. I heard that some batches were heat treated incorrectly at teh pin (small) end and were blue in color. A & B rods were used in the production 73's, not sure about '74's.

Re: 255x60x15 tire fit. Notice that sometimes they fit and sometimes they rub a little. Blame that on inconsistant build quality (I'm being generous!).Also, tires are required to come within only 10% of thier stated size. I suggest resetting the alignment to 1/2 deg neg camber - 1/16 toe in-2 to 4 deg + caster. This will result in better handling and more tire clearence.

I had him look closely at the rods and he said some of them have the letter C, some only the number 2 and some the number 1. Several of them also have a circle with something in it.

Even cooler to have him living in the same city and having built the engine in my SD a few years back. Hey Ken!

Thanks Mike! When are you going to cross over to the dark side and get a SD bird? By the way, Dan was making good progress on the GT-37 until I squeezed my TA in to get the exhaust leaks fixed. That little project blossomed into a real project, but we're almost done. The GT-37 will be georgious when completed.

Do you guys still have that 72 GTO 455HO Station Wagon .
Wareagle - We've heard that the poor wagon has been scavanged for parts for various restorations by various owners and is not much more than a vague image of what Dan created. It was a cool cruizer no doubt.

Sorry I wont be at the Nats this year since I went to the poci but hope to see that car someday soon? Love to see some pictures too!
Console car, color interior, bird....... details, details..
Enjoy,
Brew
Brew - The car came from the factory with the center console, deluxe black interior, heated rear glass (defroster), AM/8-track, SD-455 engine, M-20 4-speed, full tinted glass, Honeycombs, and the small front bumper bird. The ordering dealer (Don Ayers in Ft. Wayne, IN) didn't like the big decal, so didn't order it. It was ordered to be a floor display for a while before they sold it. The first owner didn't know how special the car was and traded it in on a new Corvette in 1977 (what a big mistake). The second owner was a kid who beat the crap out of it and soon spun a rod bearing, parked it and then sold it to the third owner late '77, Said third owner poorly rebuilt it in '78 and promptly spun another rod bearing and sat until 1982, when he had enogh money to properly rebuild it (44,000 mi.). I'll try to round up a photo or two soon. Sorry to hear you won't be at the TA Nat's.
