I will not ever be using the bumper jack that came with the car. we all know raising them with those tweaks the heck out of the car and cracks the endura bumper. I even filled the endura bumper jack slots to clean up the look a bit. I also purposely removed the brackets on the trunk floor. certainly don't care about any look for just having it in there.

my plan from the get go is to figure out a mod and carry a modern day compact light weight scissor jack. fab a bracket of sorts and mount it up on the trunk floor flat area under the speakers.

anyone have a mod of sorts in any trunk as this? pics? easy mod thinking someone out there did it and may have a better way.

I noted a very nice and simple bracket for a fire extinguisher behind the drivers seat I will definetly do. was a very cool idea.

I use the frame jack that was in the 80s-90s GM cars. Fits into the hole at the bottom of the frame and provides a safe alternative to bottle, scissor, or bumper jacks

I also would never use the OE Jack.

I've shared this before,
While not technical, but a more stealthy way of carrying a better jack and tools.

Both the old Coke cooler and the vintage Samsonite suitcase are held very well with HD velcro and have been in place for years.

Love the vintage cooler and suitcase... looks far nicer than my race bag and Pelican case.

I utilized a '06 GTO spare (13" disc in front) and an AC Delco 2 ton scissor jack I picked up somewhere. Yes the jack does go high enough, I've had to use it a couple of times now on the longer road trips.

This one one of the best jacks we ever came out with at GM. The screw post cylinder jack that came with trucks and vans was strong, but the base wasn't wide enough to be that stable. Chocking a front wheel was important when jacking up the rear axle.

Those of bumper Jack's were downright dangerous. I also could never understand how a little prong on the jack fitting a tiny slot in the bumper is sufficient to let the car .......... safely.

I've had one of those in my GTO since the early 90's. They are a good option for lowered cars. Another option is the later model screw jack from a pickup. Get the mounting bracket and install on the panel in the front of the trunk or in the engine compartment.

Nice thing about this is that salvage yards should have an abundance of these on the cheap. figure i'll hit our truck salvage yard first.

going to go with a small spare tire to. wish they had a modern day space saver one big enough even. only care about getting off the road as I carry the plugs and fix the flats. always carry a large size fix a flat to. mostly for the air in it. sometimes thats enough to get you off the road to safely address the flat.

I do have a good sam membership since we have our camper and it also works like triple a, they will come change our flat if need be. 69 bucks for 2 years is cheapo roadside help.

I could not get myself to hang a metal bracket over the plastic behind the rear seat as I had seen posted here. great idea though. I had this stiff dense 4 1/2" packing foam so I shadow boxed in the extinguisher and the jack I decided to go with. both are in very snug and not going anywhere. cut the foam long enough to fit the areas tightly.

I looked at a lot of gm scissor type jacks but where the jack needs to go on these firebirds just didnt work well. I have one of these mini jacks for our camper and decided to go with one for the car. this one is only 20lbs and I sure don't mind the hydraulic assist rather than to hand crank the weight of the car.

for now the extinguisher rides behind me on the floor. maybe later down the road I will be comfortable migrating it to the trunk. new 205/70/15 spare on a routine steel pontiac rim. it sits snug there up over the right rear and just for extra a bungee cord worked great going back to 2 existing holes in the "ears" at the back of the wheel well.

tool bag of necessities and good to go.

cut the depth with a routine construction blade and remove the bulk as best u can, then used my favorite most usefull of all my air tools. mini belt sander.

was just getting ready to shadow in my lithium battery power supply. small, powerfull, has a built in led flashlight, comes with jumper cables, supposed to be able to jump start a car although iv'e never tried it yet. comes with usb ports and cables and all packed in a marine waterproof case.

FWIW, the 97-2003 GP's have a foam insert that sits under the spare tire that contains the scissor jack, handle/lug wrench already cut and formed in a round styrafoam donut:



Keeps everything together, without rattling.

yes, most the newer cars shadow box all that. my wifes ford edge has a very nice mat like that. its what gave me the idea.

for my firebird the scissor jack does not work out. I needed to tuck the jack up under the car, no nice long framerail running the length of the car darn it.
