Default 1971 455 HO INTAKE MANIFOLD PRE HEATER SHROUD

Hello forum members does anyone have photos of how the intake preheater shroud fastens to the intake manifold on the passenger side on a 1971 455HO?

Will these help? FYI, the last two pictures are from a 72, I couldn't find any 71 pictures of that side of the engine.

Hope this helps...some are off the web, some are from our forum. The third, I do not believe is correct, at least the choke is not. for '71 model. But these may help you to get an idea of how it mounts.

Great photos now I see that it is important to have the pcv bracket so the base can be fastened down tightly on both sides thank you very much.

I think you meant the wiring harness tray...so you can fasten both sides of the heat stove w the two plated sheet metal screws. Ole Pinion head will probably comment here on this and get it all straight for you. was 2007 when I knew this correctly. been a while.

Pictures 3 and 4 are correct for the 72 model year.

Picture 3 & 4 are 1972. Thanks...I thought so, but did not dare say for sure without really knowing for a fact. There's already enough wrong information.

Sorry guys your right I should have said the riser attaches to the wire gutter not pcv gutter. Just following the conversation from the photos you saying the 1971 455 HO cars did not utilize the TCS solenoid. Noticed in AMES catalog it states except HO which would confirm 1971 HO did not use.

The TCS & TVS were all part of the newly envisioned CCS (Controlled Combustion System). These devices were the start of the Emission Controlled Vehicles era. In a nutshell, all they did was eliminate vacuum advance at idle, which greatly reduces exhaust emissions. Anything off idle and vacuum advance was back in play.

You can read all about it in your 1971 service manual, section 6D, under Emission Control.

For correctness, I have it installed on my car so it appears to be in use, but it is not. I have a separate, almost undetectable, full time vacuum line feeding my distributor. I prefer better throttle response and the engine cooling benefits over total correctness. Other people may feel differently. 6 of 1, half dozen of the other. "Port Timed" or "Full Time" vacuum...whatever works best for you.

Good luck Elkykid with your '71, shoot us some pics on your progress.
