No early ones. The seller is going to supply the '70-'73 valance braces for both sides in order to convert the fenders for my car. The NOS fenders are the early '80's service replacement parts that use the clip nut for attaching the hood hinges.

After closer examination I'm not sure where the origin of the new fenders actually is... At least I didn't pay a NOS price for them. Ignorance and excitement make a bad combination when making purchases!

I need some help from the forum in determining the origin of some unused '70-'81 TA fenders I recently purchased. Does anyone have some NOS GM fenders from the early '80's that used the clip nut for attaching the hood hinges? Also, when did the first repop fenders become available? The seller said that the fenders in question came with a project car back in the '80's. The unused fenders are not near the quality of the factory installed fenders and the gauge of some of the inner structure bracing is thinner. There is residue from where an ID sticker used to be on the inside of the fender.

Not looking good... Compared to the known NOS parts there are multiple discrepancies. The metal is bulged around the wheelhouse bolt holes. There are three additional holes under the extractors. The ID labels have been deliberately removed plus they had square corners versus rounded like GM. The labels were located inside below the extractors. The GM labels I've seen are located inside above the wheel openings. Guess I'll post them on CL with an accurate description and price accordingly. Maybe someone can use them on a drag car, they're lighter!

years ago I bought a TA fender like that from GM dealer. I took it as a generic "one size fits all" replacement with the different flare holes. not good ole early thick sheetmetal.

Picked these up for the ‘72 Firebird. I’ve seen them installed in early ‘70’s Birds. Looking for input from someone who has done this before. What seat tracks were used and what mods were needed.

Those seats look like they are from a 1981 NASCAR Edition Trans Am. Are the track adapters still on them? Should be able to just bolt up a factory set of seat tracks.
That model of Recaro seat is called the Ideal-N. Back in the day they sold multiple track adapters for different car models. The adapters are basically just made of folded and stamped 1/8" plate steel and painted black. |

The seats were recently removed from an ‘81 NASCAR TA. They have the adapter brackets. The ‘81 seat tracks are longer than my ‘72’s. The holes in the ‘72 tracks have to be slotted about another 1/2” in order to bolt them to the Recaro adapters. The Recaro adapter brackets need to have material removed to allow the ‘72 seat track release lever to clear.

Part ID needed
The bodyshop disassembled parts of the car and didn’t bag or tag some parts. The tech who did the work is no longer employed there. Could someone please ID where these shims came from? I’m guessing deck lid or doors. Thanks, Bob

Car will be painted Buccaneer red including the tail panel. Still in the early stages of mocking up and gapping body panels. I waited 3 years for the first shop to get an opening and it didn’t work out. I’m working on getting the project back on track at another bodyshop.

Even on a rotisserie scraping heavy undercoating is a crappy job. I used a heat gun and scraping tools to get off most of it. Then used a spray bottle with odorless mineral spirits to keep it soaked while wiping it down with red Scotch-Brite and rags. Nice weather tomorrow so I’m going to blast the rusty areas.
Subframe has been blasted. Sprayed with epoxy and then black Imron. |
