Default Hood emblem

I’m sure somebody knows the answer to this
The hood that came on my 66 gto looks original it’s in primer but The underside looks like it belongs to the car but has no front Pontiac arrow emblem or holes that I can see. Did all 66 come with the hood arrow? Did 67’s maybe a 67 hood? Or an older aftermarket perhaps. I have a few arrow emblems that I am thinking about adding but maybe not if it didn’t come through with one.
Thanks

You probably have a '65 hood. Those did not come with the crest on the hood, but on the header panel. Otherwise identical looking to '66 and '67.

Learn something new every day don’t know why I thought the 65 was different and wouldn’t fit on a 66 or 67
Thanks for the info

Is that the only difference?

They are all the same dimensions and fit the other years. Does your hood have studded clips and nuts that it bolts on with?

Yes it does I didn’t really look at it to close I took the hood off more than a year ago and remember noticing the studs and thinking that’s odd. Is that the way a 65 comes?

I’ve seen 65 and 66 use that style 67 used bolts.

These cars got wrecked all the time. Not uncommon to grab any GTO hood and bolt it on as long as it fit and had a hood scoop. Another thing is that these hoods buckled easily because of their "beak" that stuck out. Even the slightest tap to the hood buckled it and that damage, however slight, traveled up the hood creating an "oil can" effect that was very difficult to get out. '64 hood were worse.

Also, adding to the chief, hood hinges never got lubed and you have a lot of leverage out there on the peck...Back then, who cared if the hood had studs or bolts!!!!

Thanks guys I going with its a 65 hood.
I’ll have to keep an eye out for a 66 or 67 to get the measurements for the arrow gives you a gd spot to clove the with.

If you look on the underside up near the front you will see where to drill the holes. PMD must have had a premonition for these hoods because the inner frame work already had provisions (cut outs) for the speed nuts.

Default Merry Christmas

Starting point is, naturally, the peak. Measurement is to the
center of the first hole. Rolled my ruler to get this. 7/32 drill
bit seemed about right, maybe start with 3/16? Next hole is
actually an oval, because the studs on the arrowheads aren't
exactly parallel. The front locates it, the rear just keeps it from
moving side to side. That's why I used the leading edge of the
hole. HTH.

Excellent reference. The slotted upper hole is true.

I would think the holes are there because they used the same underhood framework as the Tempest/LeMans hood. Those cars had a trim piece at the front of the hood. Just an assumption on my part, but it makes more sense to me than a premonition

Years ago, a supposedly EXPERT GTO guy at a show told me my hood was NOT a 65 hood because it had the holes for the hood emblem?
I do not know what to think. I was told when I bought my car it was original and then verified by the guy who had the car painted(not restored) in 1987. He bought the car in 1983.

Hmmmm……

They did have a chrome windsplit.

I don't believe I have anymore NOS ones. Do you know if the front 2 windsplit trim's studs are in the same location as the '66 - '67 arrowhead emblem?

I'm not sure, but I can compare my 66 GTO to my son's 65 Tempest. Not home at the moment though....
