Default Difference in steering shafts?

Have two steering shafts in my parts stash, and noticed a few difference between them.

The collapsible section is turned 90* when comparing them. Also, one has about 50% spline engagement to the steering column while the other is more like 75%.

Any idea why the differences or if they were for different applications?
