Default Considering bidding on this car....need feedback

Hello all, I am considering bidding on this car:

https://www.mecum.com/lots/PG0121-45...o-convertible/

and would very much like some feedback. Would love your thoughts on:

-originality
-reasonable price
-documentation
-overall condition

I'm having the car professionally inspected this weekend. But, I have found the members here, can give great feedback as well. THANKS for any help!!!

Also, if anyone has an inspector close to Punta Gorda Florida, that specializes in GTO's, please let me know. The more eyes on the car, the better.

The red fender liners are gonna make some half lit guy with the by night pole dancer sitting on his lap plying him with free drinks, spend way more then needs to be spent. I'll show you I have more money. Seen it before.

The seat covers don't look right.... wrong reproductions as in PUI or Distinctive Designs junk with the flat bolsters. Sure isn't Legendary. And the walnut woodgrain is way to red. Makes me wonder if the mileage is original too.

Terrible terrible pictures. I think that the photography is so bad because the pix were taken in dark, yet harsh, garish florescent lighting with red neon signs nearby. And flash photography from low end cameras make anything look terrible in my opinion. Based on that, I wouldn't reject it yet....not until you get someone to lay eyes on it. I suspect it's a beauty...I wish we could see it in the sun. It's got a fair set of options...but with non original exterior, interior and top colors. With a high dollar car, that starts to matter, but if you don't mind, don't let that stop you.

It seems to me many details are "right". They used true 14 x 6 rally I wheels (Not wide repros). The tires look vintage correct. When I see that, I start to think somebody paid attention to the restoration.

When I look at a car, I also look at things like: are the lower front fender "dog legs" flush and not angled out (see this so often on A body Pontiacs). Is the exhaust (repro or aftermarket) tucked up with care (nothing lazier than low hanging tail pipes...I hate that!) Is the header panel to hood fit/gap done with care (so many 66-67 GTO's have embarrassing header/hood fit) did they use hardware store fasteners, are wires hanging out anywhere. That car looks very clean to me.

It could be a solid start and worth fixing wrong details if the price is right. Good luck!

I see a 1967 window crank with the black plastic knob.

Plus a 1965 oil dipstick and tube.

If it’s a true A.I.R. car (WV) code, the heater hose should be clamped to the RH inner fender skirt.

These tell me something fishy about who through this car together.

Use caution!

No way would I bid on it UNLESS I had examined myself. Either it's an older frame off, or one not done very well. Coloring on the carbs has faded away, brake booster looked painted instead of plated, etc. Makes you wonder about the things you can't see.

Cars sold as a collection, and onsite usually bring more than they are worth. Tread very carefully.

You ask Originality.

All three colors have been changed according to the 66 car billing history.

Body, Top and Interior are all Black now.

It was built much different from the factory.

I know somebody who bought on a '67 "GTO" convertible from one of the big auctions a few years ago.

Called me, telling me about the 455 GTO he bought. I felt a bit sick, as I explained to him that Pontiac didn't make a 455 until 1970.

Turned out to be a low-compression 2bbl 326 base LeMans convertible, that somebody put some GTO and 455 emblems on. I don't want to say how much he (over) paid, but I could buy a really nice brand new Camry for the amount.

Good luck Eric!!!

Looks like someone mixted up code 616 with code 661.

661 is a HD frame, std on convertible, so not an option on this vehicle.
616 is 612 A.I. exh. ctrl. and 614 Positive CRKS vent. combined. Correct for a California car.

Call Scott-772-781-4080. He is there, and knows these cars as he has restored more than a few. Tell him Andre sent you his way.

The incorrectly shaped steel line for the distributor advance looks to be connected to the diverter valve. Otherwise most of the smog related parts look nice. PS, PB, Wood-wheel, rally wheels all added. The addition of PS changes the pulley and alternator arrangement. Pin-stripe on black exterior black interior should be bone/white.

Hi Kenth,

I’m not sure what you are saying.

This above mentioned ‘66 “Car Billing History Card” shows the correct 616 box for a WV car.

I have some other ‘66 WV CBHC that also show the 616 box (612 + 614 = 616).

Box 66 is blank as it should be.

I believe he’s referring to one of the highlighted PHS pages that has the HD frame highlighted. There are a few discrepancies between the Billing card and the highlighted pages..

I've owned 3 66's but I don't consider myself an expert on everything on the cars. Would the AIR cars have that style of dipstick? I don't recall my cars having it that tall. Almost looks like a AC dipstick.

The pictures probably don't do the car justice. I'm not far from Punta Gorda but I don't know if I'll have time to get down there to check them out.
