One more decal. Does anybody know where the engine cooling system decal goes?

I have searched the forum, and this thread was the closest info I could find, but I need to ask another question please.
Ames sells two different versions of the 481218 jack stowage decal for 1970 Firebirds. One is FX412R, "Early Jacking Instructions", and FX413, "Revised Jacking Instructions". Does anyone know the approximate date of this decal change? My car was built first week of June, 1970, in Norwood. I am trying to figure out which decal would be correct, the early or the revised one? Does anyone have any pics of orignal Norwood cars, and their jack labels, and their build dates? Just trying to get the final details correct so I can go to the TA Nats in August... Thanks.

I wonder if the later decal has a revision date on it? Give Ames tech dept. a call.

I looked at the picture of it on line, and it only says on the very bottom, “ Rev.2 481218”, no revision date.
Here is the early decal: Here is the revised decal: The main difference I see, is the position of the jack mechanism on the mast. Early decal shows the mechanism close to the rear seat, while the revised decal shows the mechanism towards the rear bumper. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I just spoke with Ames tech support and they do not have a date for the change to the revised decal.

Here's a picture of my original paint 5D Van Nuys 70 RAIII Formula.
In case pic doesn't show well, it's on the far right side. Last edited by Formulajones; 07-29-2019 at 11:19 PM. |

Formula jones, thanks for the pic. Your decal appears to be the early version. I says "Jack Usage and Stowage", all on the top blue line. The revised decal breaks out "Jack Usage", on the top blue line, and "Stowage" on the middle blue line.
Yours being a Van Nuys car built last week of May, helps me narrow it down. My car is a Norwood first week of June. If we can get a few more data points, then maybe we can pin down this change date. Thanks.

You're welcome. If I'd have realized the decal itself was also in question I would have tried to get a better picture of it for you. As you can see it's a little worse for wear but it's original.

My 70 Van Nuys built (06B) was just like Formulajones pic. My decal is gone but there is still an adhesive footprint visible. Location and clocking almost exact.

I believe I understand the decal location and orientation differences between Norwood and Van Nuys cars.
I am still trying to understand when Pontiac changed the decal from the original style to the “rev. 2” style. Please refer to the two pics I posted previously in this thread. I would like to see some original decals from some June, and July built 70 cars to see if I can narrow down the transition date. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Don't recall seeing this one in a repro last time I looked. IMHO your TA most likely should have this Rev. #1, but if there is no repro available, go with Rev. #2. |

Tic is it possible for you to post a pic of your revision 1 decal? I am curious to see what the differences are on this decal vs. the original and revision 2.

Here you go. These are the best I could make. To be clear, there is no doubt this a factory installed sticker on this 05D V.N. TA.

Thanks for the post Ric!
It looks like revision 1 is just moving the location of the jack mechanism from close to the rear seat, out towards the rear bumper. Then revision 2 is a change in the wording / formatting location only. The jack mechanism remains the same orientation. On decal 491272, there is a large change in safety wording in the center on the decal, as well as moving the jack mechanism back towards the rear seat. I tend to concur Ric, my car should have revision 1 if both Norwood and Van Nuys implemented the changes at the same time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
