I just had thought, are suppose to be able to push down on the Lash adjusters or they suppose to be stiff, because I notice a few are stiff and some aren't

Push the oil out of them. (some will stick) You do not want them pumped up prior to start up. It will hold the valves open.

So that could be part of the problem when I was trying to do a compression test why the engine wouldn't turn on a certain spot, the starter would struggle.

After further inspection of the Lash adjusters all are stiff except 1, What's the best way to loosen them up. I do have another set Lash Adjusters, I have to remember where I put them + I have a 66 1BBL Head that's already rebuilt with Lash adjusters in it, unless I use those. Any thoughts?

Place one between two pieces of wood in a vise and gently compress. I have also tapped the top with a hammer, again between two pieces of wood.

I've tapped them with a rubber hammer also to loosen them up. They just need the oil pushed out of them and they are basically designed to be hammered =P If you want to remove them, if they don't come out easily (they often stick in the bore), then you can give it a shot of compressed air in the little tiny hole in the head next to each one to pop it up. Use a rag in hand to keep them from rocketing to the sky!

That is some weird looking gunk built up in the water passage.

I got the lash adjusters loosen up and got cam cover back on. Motor still wouldn't turn like it suppose to. I had to think- well the jumper cables I was using couldn't handle the Amps they were getting hot, So I took the battery cables out the Firebird and connected straight to the starter what do you know it turned like suppose to. Here the compression Dry/Wet 1) 125/150, 2) 140-150 3) 150-160 4) 145-150 5) 150-155 6) 150-155. I'm going to double check the compression on number 1 tomorrow. I know one thing the belt is a pain to get back on

I just bought a 69' sprint head for $25.00 got cleaned up a lot of water damage from sitting, number 4 exhaust port has a crack, I found a guy who Specializes in wielding cast iron, he said it going to be a lot work because the water damage. well that's on the back burner. other then that I got my transmission out, try to take the voltage regulator out and windshield motor out screws kept on breaking off been spraying WD 40 this last week and let it soak in, probably pull the block out this weekend or start on building a front porch. Working 4 ten's 7:00pm to 5:00am takes a lot out of me, doing traffic control on a freeway.
