We need to be buying these now while they are available, the good (read rare) ones will be gone soon!

I think this one is going to take a lot of $100 caliber ammo to bag it

I can put you in contact with the original owner of a 91 1LE. Green in color. Less than 10,000 on the clock. He's ready to cut loose of it and might go to Mecum this May.

Sorry guys got home late last night, traffic in NJ was miserable - one end to the other!

1 of 46 1991 1LE Formulas
1 of 8 with T-Tops
Believed to be 1 of 1 with the 1SC Option package, the highest option content of any 1LE built - Should be able to confirm this by the end of today.

This car was ordered three times by it's original owner in Laramie, WY and when he got word the order would be accepted, loaded it up. He owned it until 2013 and had just moved to Florida and sold it because it didn't have A/C (mandatory delete with the 1LE option)! The second owner bought the car, had it shipped up to the Baltimore MD. area and restored it over the last 3 years & I got it from him.

According to GM, these cars were not supposed to be built! None of the 1,360 Camaro 1LE's were built with T-tops and none of the Firebirds were supposed to be either - but 8 Formulas and 15 Trans Ams were built - all in the 1991 model year. Here is a cheat sheet of Firebird production to help break down the numbers.

Total production for 1LE Pontiacs over the years was 104 Trans Am's and 68 Formulas for a total of 172. Of the 46 Formulas produced in 1991, 8 of those were ordered by SLP and went on to be converted into Firehawks, as did 15 of the 22 built in the 1992 model year. As for the Trans Am's, most were built for the Canadian Player's series and were export models. The 1LE cars were purpose built for racing using an unusual and well chosen combination of parts to achieve that. Adding luxury options like power windows, mirrors, locks, rear defroster & cruise control was ancillary to the goal and usually not allowed. Certainly adding t-tops to a race car would be strictly prohibited, but where Chevrolet said no, Pontiac said yes and a very few of these cars got built.

I got a ton of documentation with the car including it's two page window sticker and two three ring binders with receipts, magazine articles, and other original documentation. The guy I bought it from was an accountant, and had a meticulous attitude about the car and it's documents. He gave me a thumb drive with hundreds of pictures of it's restoration, a spreadsheet with everything he spent, all of the parts removed that were replaced, etc. He even let me keep one of the plates!

i never knew they where so low production..i worked on a couple 1LEs when they where new...i was at a dealership at the time and the finance manager was a so called race car driver. He convinced someone above him he could drive...he started with a couple Starion ESIRs that Mitsubishi gave him... wrecked them both..and ended up with a some 1LEs, 2 firebirds then 2 camaros, and proceeded to kill them all..i fixed the firebirds a couple times and the camaros too..no one in the shop wanted anything to do with them..they where heavily caged and a booger to do anything with..so in a few years he killed 6 cars...i moved on right after he wrecked the last camaro...and i cant be sure, but i think the starions and firebirds where stripped and scrapped...

For 4th gens Mike you'll want to stick to the Formula's and the TA's & especially the Firehawks, Comp TA's, LT4 models, WS6 Ram Air cars and then any of the LS1 98 & up ones. The 4th Gen Camaros don't seem to have the same following or carry the same values unless they are super low miles or Anniversary editions - maybe because they have such a close resemblance to the Geo Storm.
