Va68goat,
Just finished a KRE headed 463 that made similar numbers. What are you using for a fuel system? Just curious since I need to update and haven’t decided on a direction yet.

2nd video sounds like the 1~2 shift happened less than 3 seconds in to it.

Was that hammered or feathering the throttle?

Just thinking about what 64speed is going to be up against with a 6 speed and 3.70:1 rear gears.

Yeah that carb still has the bronze filters in it, sure that didn't help flow. Think it only has the .110 or .120 seats in it too, .130/.150s would also make a diff. But it definitely needs some work still. The 'Jeff' carb certainly would have been nice, but the overall budget was a concern.

I think there was an issue with the kickdown switch in the one vid, not sure if that got worked out or not yet. Car is very green, that's the first drive, sure it will improve with refinement/adjustments. Not even sure the throttle cable is adjusted to allow full opening.

It is a nice car too, Joe did some nice work on that thing, and dove into stuff that would have scared off a lot of people with more experience even. I'm sure he'll have it dialed in in no time.

"One thing that I have learned, you can ask the same question about an engine build to 10 people and you'll get 15 different answers. hahaha.. I'm having fun with this though. This is just a fun street car to drive on the weekends."

You are fortunate to have the right answers from the right person. Trying to Cherry Pick bits and pieces as a beginner can certainly end badly. All the bits and pieces may be right but when you put 10 peoples ideas all together in a single project, things can go sour. You have a good solid base and good advice.

You're right marblik! Between Paul, HWYSTR455 and grivera, I know how lucky I am. A few other friends of mine referred me to local "Pontiac Guru's" here in Virginia. I'm glad I didn't listen to them. Paul was excellent to do business with and had patience with me since I'm really new to cars. HWYSTR455 and grivera have been to the house helping me and one thing for sure is they MAKE ME learn. As many times as I've been stuck, they tell me what the hell to do and I get it done (one way or another).

As for "Dialing it in".....HWYSTR455 and grivera, I'll buy the beer and food and I'll see you at the house. Hahaha!

I'm glad to hear the lifter noise in the first video. I've got the same noise, and it drives me nuts but it is therapeutic to know it isn't just me.

To this day I dont know if that's a bad, catastrophic thing or not. I know my buddies 79 Trans Am does the same thing. He just started his car for the 1st time as well. What's the deal with that? Am I looking at trouble in the near future? Is that something that needs to get addressed immediately?

Joe, I heard that too. It may just be the roller rockers as they make a certain amount of noise, but to be safe, you guys should re-check the lifter pre-load. Shoot for 3/4-1 turn past zero. Since your rockers were used, we really don't know the history of them. They seemed fine though. That's not a lifter noise, I don't believe.

Sounds sweet! Does the starter need a little shimming?

I thought the noise sounded more like an exhaust leak than a lifter ticking, that would be a pretty loud tapping sound for a rocker arm.........Cliff

Very nice engine. I have that same cam but had them grind it on an 108lsa because I wanted it to sound nastier. Am leaning toward putting it in a 433 build though. It was nice seeing your build specs and the youtube videos; thanks.

That's what I was thinking too Paul, check adjustment/preload, once-over visual the rockers, and check for exhaust leaks. Hoping to swing by there this weekend maybe.

Sure there will be a handful of after-1st-start checks and adjustments, car has been off the road for a while, and it's a lot of fresh parts.

What rear tires were you running in the videos?

Get some track times and report back!

Default Mystery knocking noise revealed

Well, as you can see by the picture, the mysterious knocking noise has been revealed ..HWYSTR455 came over today and was able to identify the problem. Here is the vide clip where you can hear the knocking.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHLshwwe-Tc

Here is what I'll be replacing the old rockers with.

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/c...SABEgJ8ofD_BwE

Two rockers were damaged on the passenger side, didn't even check the drivers side because they all need to be replaced anyway! Minor setback but hopefully I will be on the road soon. I just wish I knew how to do this stuff myself!!!

Looks like poly lock and rocker body interfearance, I have a set of those rockers the original poly locks cracked pretty easy when chinching them down

Took the rockers off got new polys never tried to use the rockers again

Mine however did not rub like this

I'm way too new to cars to know what could have caused this. HWYSTR455 or grivera may know. Paul Carter (gtofreek) built this motor for me and I have all the faith in the world in him. I do know that these rockers were in the previous motor that I had and to Paul, they appeared to be fine prior to installation. Honestly, I didn't even know what a rocker was until HWYSTR455 pointed it out to me. I don't blame Paul at all for this. I figure this may be a good discussion for guys on the forum. I'm interested in reading different opinions. I'm still learning about these old cars.

It does look like the way the nut was positioned, the point of the nut was hitting the rocker.
