First dib on a true barn find
The term barn find is bogusly overused. but I truly am just waiting on the word of a 1976 or 77 original owner grand prix that is actually in a closed barn and setting for around 10 years and just 3 miles from my house. I can't remember if its a 76 or 77. Its white with a black rear vinyl top and black cloth interior. its unusual in that it has a front bench seat and column shift. ralley II's and in excellent rust free condition. 400 engine. everything original. I got to see it 2 or 3 years ago. the fella passed away and his widow is just reluctant to let anything go. a friend I work with is married into the family and no one wants it or has any interest in it at all, he says when he can approach the issue at the right time, its mine. no idea what she may ask for it but I would love to get it, the 76 and 77's were very popular back then. been wanting a cruiser while a restore my TA clone.
guesstimate on what a fair price for it would be? |

Its a 1976 OR '77???
Its unusual???? Its white??? No photos??? You have all those cars listed in your signature and you expect a value on a car with basically zero to go off of? As Trump said to Baldwin.... Good luck! |

I figure a bench seat is unusual for a grand prix. I'm no GP expert but remember the cars as new. yeh its white. I was lucky to get to even see it givin the situation let alone pictures. what in the world do the cars listed in my signature have to do with a fair price guess? I don't expect a "value" just a friendly guess or 2. surely a price on a 76 or 77 isn't that much different, I don't think this car is of a high value and don't see info beyond what I know for now as making a big difference. $5,000 car tops? just a cruiser. the cars in my signature I've owned over a 40 year span. only own my 72 trans am clone project right now and hopefully this grand prix before to much longer. I ask the fella about it once a year don't want to pester. he always says i'm first when he can arrange it thru his mother in law without upsetting her. |

I'm gonna say somewhere between $500 and $50,000 depending on condition & options.

funny! look i'm not into numbers matching and analyzing the paper tag for bb codes and clamps turned just right.
anyone that's been around any car hobby for a long time can see a car from the road and have a basic idea before even walking up on it close if its high or low value. the body etc is the same for 76-77 cant be much price diff. I was guessing $5,000 to $7,500 and was simply curious. simple Pontiac hobby enjoyment fellas. no kidding, this car is in a faded red wood barn with closed doors in ten-buck-2 kansas. truly a classic situation, when I get it I will take the barn pic etc. the cars in my signature...……..i'm not a rich guy and feel extremely grateful to have been able to drive these pieces of history one at a time thru the years although at the time I didn't think that way! I lived the era and it was sooooo cool. Pontiacs gone its a bummer but I got to see it. yeha now, calm down and be sure you knit "kc chiefs" on the blanket! LOL! Who said anything about "numbers"? Obviously comprehending "posting photos" eludes you. And you wonder why you have not got a straight answer yet. People give "hints".... You give crap. You get what you give. I have had a bunch of these cars over the years, enough to know market values, but I'm done playing "your" game. Good luck on your quest.

I will say in an unemotional post that there is little here to go on to help you with a figure. Don’t get caught up in the barn find stigma, it ads no value once the car is removed. 76-7 GPs are starting to go up. However, without pics and actually seeing it I’d say $3500-4500. Remember, it’s sitting in a barn for 10 years so there’s mice and all the maintenance required to bring it back to life.

73-77 Grand Prix's are getting hard to find in decent condition, and if the drivetrain is intact that is a big plus.
Having said that......they get little respect when it comes to resale. very few parts are being reproduced (no interior parts or sheet metal). If it has been sitting for 5 or more years....cut the price in half. hope you are handy with tools? Dave |

Yes very common to find a 76 or 77 GP with a Bench seat, 73-75 not so much. But they really decontented the base GP's starting in 76 to bring the base price down, including putting a 350 2bbl as the Base engine. 1st engine smaller than a 389 ever offered in a GP.
Waiting for the Pic's, I agree on there being little love for them in the resale market, but they are very nice cruisers, that just need about 100 more HP to be fun to drive, that and some more rear gear.

My buddy bought a '77 right after high school. Pale metallic green with a white interior. Pretty car...but it had a Buick engine in it.

I have owned quite a few 77's and this is the first I have heard of this. But then, all my 77's were SJ's and those only came with a 400. Quite frankly, I wouldn't own anything less than an SJ.

It's very possible it could have been a '78...been a while. We hadn't been out of High School very long and I graduated in '76. It had a Buick 350 in it.
Oops...I just realized that '78 was a generational body style change...so, his was definitely a '77. Had the rectangular headlights and the 'dressed up' grille.. If I'm mis-remembering anything it may be that it was an Olds engine but I recall it being a Buick engine. In fact, weren't there some lawsuits about the GM engine swapping fiasco? I came across an interesting article while searching for info on this. From 1977.. https://www.nytimes.com/1977/03/15/a...sinful-to.html
