First thing to do, is, educate yourself on 1970 Trans Am's. Arm yourself with information. Write down all the block numbers and date codes, etc. Get under it and look at everything. Scrape the engine on lower front to see the block code & partial VIN. If he doesn't want to let you do that, then make him an offer just like it's NOM. Formulabruce is right about $30,000 and maybe a little more to bring it all back to a nice #2 car. If it's all there and cheap enough...buy it. You can get your money back just parting it out. 8-9 years ago I saw rotted out 70-73 cars being dragged out of the woods and selling on ebay for 6-8K. I couldn't believe it. Good luck, I hope its in good shape and you get it cheap.

At 6k plus 30-35k restoring it, I think you are at breakeven or better. That restoration price can vary quite a bit. Long story short, 6k if in reasonable shape is a reasonable price.

6k is a sweet deal. Wheels, Alt, Shaker all add up to that as a parts car...the rest is gravy.

No brainer in my book. Post pix when you get it home!

At $6k I'd be on my way with cash in my pocket and trailer on the truck... as long as it isn't just a giant chunk of rust. The more original parts and solid the body, the faster I would be going!

Yes, I would buy intact non Titanic 70-73 TA's all day for 6K and figure out what to do with them later.

that's what I was thinking...
but since I don't buy and sell cars, I kept my proverbial mouth shut.

$6k wouldn't even buy you a rolling shell of a muscle car of any kind around here. If it's fairly complete I'd scoop them up all day long at that price.

Are you saying that a 1970 t/a matching number would only be worth 40 k. There was less than 4000 made that is odd

I've been looking to buy a '70 T/As for the last two years. Lucerne Blue Auto hammered at 55k about a week ago in Scottsdale. Most of the white autos I've looked at and bid on went from 36-44k. My comment was really meant that at 6k you should be fine if you try and sell. You won't be putting 40k into a 20k car.

Check carb, distributor and transmission codes...

Good luck!

/\ If I recall, you're on the same side of the 49th as me;
I don't have $6k in my savings account just now, but if I came across this deal, I'd FIND $6k;
There would be almost no way you can go wrong.
I do believe that when I got in my accident in 2004, I was told that you couldn't even touch a restorable roller base model 70-73 Firebird for $8k in Ontario at that time.
You're getting a TA!

Check the cowl tag for WS4 (norwood only iirc), and the vin should be 228870-1-----.

You're a lucky man

$6k and you haven't purchased it yet? $20k+ for anything like your description here... and the ads are as rare as rocking horse poop.
