MSD proximity issues ???
Getting ready to start mounting my MSD box and coil. Are there any proximity interference issue with mounting a Digital 6 plus, and HVC coil to close to each other or a stereo head unit ???

I would have to say yes.
The box will emit some EMI and the ignition coil as well.The coil will emit more. Keep them away from the stereo and also the antenna lead for the stereo At least a foot or more if possible.Give the coil as much room as you can. I am putting an MSD AL6 in a camaro with a Fitech EFI.I have the MSD mounted under the dash below the glovebox. (right in front of the fresh air / recirculate intake) I am running the "points" wire (white) on the MSD to the Fitech units black wire,(coil output) and the Ready to run distributor green and purple wire plugs into the Fitech unit out under the hood..That keeps the wires run very short (12 inches) and away from any thing that can make electrical noise. Reason I mention this is because running the extension wire harness for the magnetic trigger (green and purple wires) can result in picking up "noise " on the circuit and may cause some misfire/ running issues depending where it is routed.The green /purple wires carry low voltage pulse and a longer run on these wires contributes to signal strength loss and may allow noise to be absorbed . The white wire is made to sense ignition pulses that are 12 volts so the absorption (inductance) of noise is minimized as a result. And as always , be sure to provide secure and adequate grounding to the MSD. Something to think about. |

One place you definitely do not what to put it is under the hood. Engine compartment temps will shorten its lifespan.

Here's where I plan to mount it. I got this a few years ago. I makes for a nice mounting surface in the glovebox. These aren't my pic but those supplied by the guy who made it.

Install a small fan nxt to it ,if you put it in the glovebox. Cut 2 holes so it can cool.
I am mounting the one in dudes camaro, UNDER the glovebox in front of the fresh air /recirculate door. |

It's fully open on each side. So should get good air flow. BUt have been thinking about a small flag.

It's not really the units themselves that will be a problem, they are generally shielded well enough, but it's the wires routed out of them that can be an issue.
Here's some grounding braided shielding at Waytek, but there are other acceptable shielding products out there too, homework it and shop it: https://www.waytekwire.com/products?...ng&pageSize=36 Don't run 'dirty' wires in parallel to trigger or signal wires. If they have to intersect, use shielding on the cable, and cross at a 90 degree angle. The coil wire to the distributor is a VERY 'dirty' wire. And honestly, you want to keep that as short as possible. I suggest mounting it on the firewall, within a couple inches of the dizzy. Power and charge wires are 'dirty', those should be kept away for other wires, such as trigger and sensor wires (5v for example). Those can be shielded with wire shielding and that would add a layer of protection. Audio amps are 'dirty' for the most part, depending on the type and quality. Remember head units too have amps. If you listen to radio, you may want to avoid the antenna lead too, but it usually only impacts AM, FM is usually a 'dirty' ground or power issue. EDIT: Just to say, CD boxes make a racket, it's a buzz-tick kind of noise, if your interior is quiet, it will drive you nuts, especially on long trips. It's fine to mount those in the engine bay. I usually mount them on the core or inner fender on the driver's side. .

Exactly Bill, and if you shop, there's tons of choices/solutions for these types of installs.
NEVER use auto parts grade 'primary wire' by the way, only GLX or TLX is the way to go. For specialty applications, like if you need a shielding wrapped wire, then of course you can go outside of GLX/TLX, but it should still be rated for heat & chemical resistance. WireBarn.com is my go to for GLX/TLX stuff. A little off topic, but recently I saw a short article in a car mag where they were talking about using MIL- spec wire harnesses in custom cars. SUPER nice stuff, compact, looks great, but wow is it expensive. The one harness they made for a project car was $18k, just for the one harness. A little out of my price range but was interesting none the less. Ok, a LOT out of my price range! Heheh! I have been using microphone cable for years for magnetic pick ups. Currents involved are very small, so small conductor size is ok. Ground one end of the shielding, job done.

CAT 6e or 7 also works, but microphone wire is a good idea! As pointed out, it's a low voltage/amp situation, so you don't need a heavy gauge wire.
There is 'soft' shielding too, doesn't have as much shielding quality, but still helps/works to a degree. The wire MSD sends with it's CD boxes that has the soft shielding on it works in a number of instances, except for extreme ones. .

Thanks for all the tips. Bought some wire from Wirebarn a while back for my non stock wiring. Also using some tips and stuff from the guy a MAD Electric. Still waiting on the car to get back from body shop to start working this issue. But with the heat here in Florida I'm actually in no big rush now ... .LOL

I’m running the sniper fi with the dual sync distributor. MSD pro blaster 3 coil is mounted to the rear of the passenger side head just like factory 64. I am also running a MSD 6AL and it’s mounted on the back side of the inner fender on the drivers side not only to hide it but to make for the shortest rus on the wires. Anyone see a problem with this setup?

No that sounds good, power wires will go in a diff direction than trigger wires.
