WELL worth it. Buy the bolt and bushing kit from SCR Shafer’s Classic Reproductions, inc. in Tampa Florida. Bead blast the pieces and paint them with your paint of choice. I like VHT spray can epoxy.

If I had to do it over again, I would not take the links apart. Just mask off the fasteners and bushings and paint the whole thing at one time. If your frame is still on your car, be sure to mark the locations of the bolts and brackets before removing it.

I did mine that way and hated the way it turned out and disassembled it and sanded it down and put all new bolts and bushings in. I'm so glad I did since it makes it so much cleaner looking and operates better.

I did mine.

Hand sanded and painted. I took the front header and the cross bows apart and painted the links assembled. I wish I would had read the assembly manual about adjusting it. or at least marked the locations where they bolted in on the interior. It would had made life easier.

I guess it all depends on how much time you have and how much you value that time. I took mine apart, sanded, painted, and polished each link. It's looks incredible. But now that I've lived with it a while, who really sees it? That's why if I had it to do over again, I would not take it apart. I'd just sand down any areas that needed it, mask the bolts/bushings, and paint it as an assembly. I'd put my time into other efforts that have higher value to me.

I covered both of my cars, masked, sanded and painted in place and they came out great. However, they were in both great condition and had no rust...just in need of a touch up.

Interesting... Top shop installed top to frame only then you installed assembly to body?
On the CRG site, they describe how factory had a sub line where top frame and fabric was installed on a carousel fixture then complete assembly was transferred to vehicle line where it was lowered/installed to body.
