Does the adjuster star wheel have the course teeth or fine teeth. The course teeth will also only go one way as its meant for manual adjustment, the fine tooth star wheel was made for self adjusters and will go in both directions.
I turn the star wheel till the wheel can NOT be turned any more and back off until I hear a fine scrap while spinning the wheel.
If you have a standard rear end (non posi). Jack the rear end up, run the car in drive and see if one wheel spins faster then the other, tighten the one that's spinning. Apply the brakes a few times to make sure every thing set... If you have the time and patience to do this, it will pay off very well. The car will stop better and go nice and straight down the road. Rear brakes have a lot to do with a cars tendency to favor one side.. If one side ends up tighter then the other, put it on the drivers side to help with road crown..
