Default VinAir in 61 Pt 2

I'm limited to 5 images and I still can't figure out to embed them in the post like I've seem some do.

My upper condenser brackets I made from strap metal as the upper provided for a 64 GTO just didn't work out right. I also improvised a bracket for the drier (not shown). That put the condenser inlet and outlet where I wanted them.

I found a 61/62 mount for the A6 compressor and fit it together on a mock up using spate head and manifold. I had to redrill the compressor mounting holes in the front adjusting plate and had to have a rear mounting plate made that I could use with the Sanden compressor.

2) Click on the image after it opens

Thanks Keith. I suppose I'm done for now unless there questions. I have previously for other posts tried to get more in one post with no success. Perhaps I'll have to try what you suggest next time. Maybe I an get it to work.

I used Classic Auto Air's "Street Rod Cooler III" kit in my 1964 GP. Though it doesn't look original in the engine compartment all the brackets they sent fit fine. They do make a direct fit kit for the 1964 GTO. Condenser fit well. I could use my glove box by making it a little less deep. If I had bought a reproduction AC box it would most likely fit. They sell some nice looking vents but I replaced the lower part of the dash and used factory vents. The controls consist of 3 small knobs on a panel which I mounted in the ashtray out of sight.

Thanks for posting. I intend to get the a/c working in my '63 GP. Not concerned about underhood appearance, in terms of compressor and bracketry, but would like to preserve the interior appearance.

You'll still only be able to attach 5 pics directly but you can link as many as you want in this way.

I started a separate "tune and test" thread as a respository for attached pictures. That way I can link to as many of those as I want (without having to use Photobucket, which I now hate with a passion).

I also edited your Part I thread and added links for the other parts, so that they are all referenced on the same page.

How did the wiring to the controls work? I was going to do that also but it seemed like the amount of swing needed for the wiring as the ashtray was opened and closed would have stressed and eventually fatigued the wiring. Getting the three pots into the ashtray was tight but do-able it was just the wiring. I have the crossovers for my speakers mounted behind the ashtrays but would have moved one of them if I had thought the wiring wouldn't have eventually shorted out.

The GP's ashtray doesn't move. There is a door that lifts up to reveal the ashtray. The wiring on the back of the control panel seems flexible enough so that moving it a limited amount should be OK.

Mine tips out about 90 degrees. Painted face cover and ash holder all tip out and with a cover over the back side that does not move it just didn't look like it would work. Sounds like a different design.
