Why couldn't both versions be made? Size is the same as well as the ends, only difference is the number of wraps.

IMO: Thanks to all here for posting the Photos for the common cause. After reading several requests here on the OP I decided to reply to generate traffic to the thread... And now, I too remember those OEM “hairy” hoses and how they would turn to dust on the hose area and leave that exposed spiral metal skeleton. Literally “dust in the wind” when opening a Poncho hood.

IIRC the aftermarket’s claim to fame was to take oem designs and improve them…so: Were the Re-Pops the only ones with the metal clamps like mine, or were they used for any years on any GM’s?

The 1973-76 cars used the 489908 hose. The 1977-81 cars used the 489909 hose. All the 1973-77 A,B,G cars used the 489909 hose.

Here's the one off off my formula which was on the car when I got it in 99, I will let the experts decide on which version it is. Scretched out it's about 13 inches as shown.

Looks like the later GM or aftermarket version made from more durable vinyl. Same plastic clamps as the original issued hoses, though.

The part (hose length) is close to correct – but no cigar!?

Perhaps you should do a poll for the years/body style/engine of coverage wanting to spend (my estimated $50+) for an OEM hose like the one in question?

IMO: IIRC there was quite a big installed difference VISUALLY between the “13 inch” hoses vs the much longer. IIRC something like a range of “13 to 24 inch” hose lengths. I remember the catalogs we had for GM showed quite a few different hoses (5 or more) that we stocked and assisted customers installing them.
IMO – I would reman the correct “13 inch” first. As since we are talking early to late 1970’s mostly here there will surely be more who will spend the $ for a correct 1970-1979 FBody hose vs a “too long” “fits all” odd looking squeezed together hose.

The Takeaway: No Drama here really - If it doesn’t look like one of these from an original Trans Am & Firebird, don’t bother. You will miss the market for those who will actually pay the $ to purchase the correct hoses for their Ponchos.
Ex: Like most here on PY; I’d purchase one for our 2nd T/A’s (1978 & 1979) a long-long time before I’d worry about a “correct one” for our 1973 GA. The same is true for our 1967 and 1969 GTO parts purchases – I will spend $ on those before the 1973.
