The Holden has an IRS, yes, but it is hardly an elegant design. The execution and geometry leave a lot to be desired. And how about the front? Struts, cast iron control arms, and geometry that often results in the inside of the stock tire to rub the strut. Real world class.

Bob Lutz admitted on CBS 60 minutes show several weeks ago that GM has gotten away from its styling themes that made it popular, then he showed the new Camaro and then noted Pontiac was next. They want to sell many more GTOs per model. The retro is coming and thats the way it is. I am very hot for the retro `69, 67 or whatever

I agree that GM needs to get back to AMERICAN styling rather than following the Europeans or the Japanese. This is where I feel they really lost our market. However, retro will not sustain a market. It will appease a few buyers for the short term and then fall flat. Look at the Mustang. They are overcrowding new and used car lots after just one year, and sales are down significantly. Yes they account for many oohs and aahs initially, but automakers aren't in a position to redesign entirely every year or two.

Fact is, the world is different and no one automaker will ever dominate again. Some of us know what we want. On the other hand, many people either can't decide or just plain don't know what they want. I feel for the automakers as it is no small task trying to figure out what will or will not be a success.

For me, no car has had the "gotta have it" factor like the first '72 GTO I bought in 1976. The current car comes close but it's not the same. However, when the years are fast-forwarded, I can see how the younger buyers of today feel the same way about their '04-06 as I felt about my '72.

That said, as long as the next GTO has 2 doors, HPV8, and rear wheel drive, I'm in regardless if it looks like a '64 or a '74, or even an '04.

That is the basic truth about a GTO. It's a 2 door, HPV8, RWD car. Always has been - and hope that's the only way it's ever made.

Styling is subjective, and not everyone will like every design. Besides, to use an old cliche, beauty is only skin deep...

[QUOTE=Sixty7Goat]Coming out with a four door? Oh ya bring it on, bury the name deeper into the ground.

The front end looks like the older grand prix's from the late eighties, how cheap can they get?[/QUOT
I work in the collision dept for a pontiac dealership,I've worked on a few 04-06 GTO's.I've had to replace the 1/4 panels on these cars, when the 1/4 is off the car there is an actual door jamb in the rear behind the front door.As if there may had been a plan for a four door before. Also You can see where the fuel was at for the monero version. I'll post some pics...

Please do, shared components with the 4 door aussie version makes sense as to why you see that 2nd door jamb...

That is one frakin prototype.

As far as the pic of the GTO that started this thread.

WOULD BE JUNK - COULD BE JUNK - SHOULD BE JUNK

I do not know where the Pontiac Managment has been on all this but hey from this Pontiac fanatic.

GET A FRAKIN CLUE

Common sense would tell GM to send people out (GTOAA would have been great event) to ask questions about what people would like to have.

Find out what your buying public WANTS.

Maybe it was corporate security. They could have hit a home run on the 04-06 GTO, and nothing would surprise me in next model attempt.

I assume the Firebird rebirth is dead then, if the GTO is coming back in `08? I say that assuming the Goat will be patterned after the concept Camaro? If not, then is the Firebird return still possible?
