Default Olds 403 code

I bought an Olds engine to rebuild, and I am trying to decode it. The pad under the big 4A on the drivers side is 29L157179. I know the 2 means it was put in a Pontiac, and the 9 is the year 1979, and the 157179 is vin # of car it came from, but what I don't know is what the L means. It is supposed to be where manufactured, but the choices I was able to find online were, M for Lansing, B for Baltimore, X for Kansas City, and Z for Freemont. What would L mean? Could it also mean Lansing? Would make more sense than using a M.
Thanks

L is Van Nuys Ca, likely a Firebird line

The guy I bought this engine from said it was a virgin block with only 42,000 miles. If it is, then it must have still had the factory oil.

Haha yeah they tend to look like that without regular oil changes or maintenance, combined with exhaust crossover baking any oil residue near the intake into a crusty mess. That one looks extra dry and gunky though.
