1970 Esprits with factory installed 400 motors ALSO got a 12 bolt as standard equipment.

I believe your 10 bolt non-ac 350 should have 2:73's

This car would have an 8.2 chevy rear. Pontiac didn't build their 8.2 for the second gen cars since they knew the 8.5 was coming in '71...

my friend got the car home today and snaped a pic of the rear. it's a 10 bolt with the posi tag around the fill plug. about 2.73 gear. not a pontiac style cover, or a 8.2 chevy cover (that i'm familiar with anyway). it also doesn't have the "ears" on the bottom like an 8.5 does. is this what an 8.2 chevy style rear looks like in a 70 Espirit?

the more i look at the pic, the more it looks like a buick/olds 8.5 12bolt to me. don't the bottom 2 bolts look more side by side insted of 1 in the middle like the typical 10 bolt?

Yep, I was pretty happy when I saw it had the 12 bolt.

My son and I just put some 4.10's in it with a posi this past summer.

ANY (all) 70 Firebird models that came with a 400 engine (even the Esprit 2 bbl. version) got a 12 bolt rea end.

The 400 2bbl. was not available in the base bird.

The chevvy inline six was standard & 350 Pontiac 2bbl. was the ONLY engine option in a base Firebird that year.
