Default Which rifle?

I would like to purchase a rifle before they are most likely banned. It will be primarily to defend my family in the event of extreme civil unrest. I am considering an M1A1, AR15, and AK47. I personally like the M1A1 for its reliability and "knock down power". I like the AK for its price and extreme reliability. I like the AR for its low recoil and ease of handling in the event that my wife may have to fire it.

I already have several handguns and a 12 gauge shotgun.

tough choice. the AR is lighter and easier for a woman to handle But the AK has a firepower advantage.

Check out bushmaster.com, DPMS, Rock River Arms, etc...

You have the choice of an AR-15 platform with a .223, .308, .450, or 7.62 rounds. They are adding new calibers all of the time.

Make sure you remove your McCain/Palin Sticker before you park out front first!

But if you look at all of the riot footage It's almost always a Volvo they flip over and set on fire.

AR15 (.223) and AK47 (.308) are good NATO rounds and would be more plentiful to get from our military or other. .223 in the free world and .308 middle east/china/ussr.

shot gun is the best "Home Defense" and can be loaded in a varity of round... light and heavy... plus slugs... there's some "knock down" power. But they typical heavy and have little reach... thus a good home defense tool.

45 ACP.... another NATO type round.

Don't forget a got deer rifle in the .223 and or .308 should be a consideration.

Planning is your best weapon. Do not rely on guns.

Default Barack Obama “I don’t believe people should be able to own guns.”

Dave Bose: Just before the break, Professor Lott, I was mentioning that actually know Barack Obama. You met at the college.

John Lott: We were both at the University of Chicago. I was first in the business school and then I taught in the law school and I was there for like, five years. He was a lecturer there and – I don’t know – there were probably a couple of dozen times or whatever that we exchanged words. I saw him at a couple of seminars. I ran into and talked to people that were nearby him. One of the things though, is that the conversations all tended to be extremely short when I was involved with him.

John Lott: The first time I met him, I went over and introduced myself. He said, “Oh, you’re the gun guy.”

John Lott: And I said, “Yeah, I guess so.”

John Lott: And he said, “I don’t believe people should be able to own guns.”

A few claymores strategically placed around the perimeter of the home should work. It did for Will Smith in "I am legend"...at least for a little while before he was over ran.

Although AK47's are cheaper made, they will take more abuse then a AR15 when it comes to dirt and mud.
AR's will jam, AK's wont.
At least the earlier models. Not sure about'm in the last 10 yrs.

Wideners Reloading And Shooting Supply INC(wideners.com) in KY usually has good pricing on cases of ammo with free shipping over $200.
And no tax on out of State purchases.
UPS right to your door.

Dont forget to buy plenty of extra magazines.

Wow, just checked thier sight.
Someone's buy'n up ALOT of ammo.
Just a few weeks ago, they had 100's of cases of all types ammo in stock.
They only have 1 brand of 9mm out of 11 on hand.
And had several more brands, type, and wieghts the last time.

I need to get a case of some 7.62's for a recent purchase before the Rodney King fun begins next week!
Either way, elected or not elected more than likely rioting will occur.

I don't like the AR-15's. I can see why Vietman Vets hated them as well. POS unless alot of work is done to them.

I gladly sold my last one. I love my Ruger Mini 14 (.223) with a scope.

If you like more power, you can't beat the SKS (7.62). Cheaper alternative to the more popular AK-47. I have three of them and they shoot pretty damned well even when filthy dirty.

If you are worried about a ban, decide now what you want and buy up the corresponding large capacity magazines as those are most likely to be banned first. Just like the last time a D was President!

FWIW.

which gun do you know more about?you want one you know inside and out,you can grab it and by feel do anything you need.you can strip it and put it back together in the dark.
no matter which one you buy,get the best parts you can afford, mags, ammo, etc, then practice with it.myself,i like the AR-15's(army training)Rock River makes the best off the rack there is at this time.(just ask the Army shooting team),i did at Camp Perry at the NRA national matches.think about a flattop with a dot type sight of some sort, fast and easy to aim and accurate out to several hundred meters depending on the type and size of the dot.
an AK is also a great weapon to have, same thing if you buy one get the best you can afford.i think the forged Bulgarians(sp)are the best of the lot.if you get an SKS,get one with removable mags.most SKS's have 20 inch barrels where AK47's have 16 inch,so the SKS has more muzzle velocity and is a little more accurate.the main thing i don't like about the AK/SKS are the sights, just more comfortable with the AR style.
these are just my thoughts.

Get yourself a couple of 12 ga semi-automatic shotguns. Load up on a variety of loads (buckshot, slugs, etc). That and a semi-auto 9mm or 45 and you're all set.

Agree... The most effective gun ever made was a shotgun, second the .22 LR. If you need to conceal, a .38 revolver. The rest is just for conversation or bragging rights...

I need a shotgun as well, I just don't think I have enough firepower.
