I was wondering if anyone had pics of the port work they or someone did to their Holley Street Dominator intake. Im look for plenum pics mostly. I have a bunch of ideas for the one Im working on now but I want to see what others have done. Also does anyone know how the ports compare to the T2 intake (bigger, smaller, longer, short)? I havent seen a T2 in so long I cant remember what the runners looked like on then.

My application is just a street car so I didn't do too deep into porting the plenum but I did do a significant amount of clean up. I have not port matched to the heads yet so what you see is not fully finished. Now that I put the spreadbore gasket on it, I see I have some more material from the sides of the secondaries to remove.

I've got Steve Coombs that Dave Bisshop ported but I left my digital camera at work. I'll get it Monday. Its just blended alot more at the top of the runner entrances.

At one time I know someone posted the runner length and volume of the T2, RPM, and Victor. I was wondering if anyone knows what they are for the HSD intake?

Jim Hand provided these numbers that he uses for input into the Engine Analyzer program:

RPM intake, 6.28 average runner length, 262 avg runner volume, 1400 total plenium volume.

Torker II, 6.06 avg runner length, 236 avg runner volume, 1195 total plenium volume.

Victor intake, 6.82 avg runner length, 346 avg runner volume, 946 total plenium volume.

(On my piticular 462ci street combo the RPM intake made 580 hp on the dyno. The Victor made 600 hp. The 'worked' HSD made 585 hp. The Torker II made 566 hp (port match problem). But that's only part of the story... need to evaluate the torque patterns)

Steve Im very curious about the torque curve of all 3 intake. If you could please post or email those number for the entire rpm range that you tested them at that would be great. Im really interested in the difference between the RPM and the HSD. THANKS

Scarebird- I will contact you and make arrangements to put copies of the complete testing in the mail. Too much typing here.

But a quickie:

Torque with RPM- 507 ft.lbs. at 3200 rpm (491 @ 3500), 589 at 4400 rpm (peak).
Tq With Victor- 487 at 3500, 595 at 4700 (peak).
Tq With HSD- 476 at 3500, 589 at 4600 (peak).
Tq With TII- 478 at 3500, 576 at 4500 (peak).

Please note: The Torker II was borrowed and not port matched to my heads. I use a very tall port opening. This intake was un-modified and right out of the box. Do not put much stock in the numbers. All the other intakes were modified and port matched to my heads.

I don't know the "correct" place to measure runner length. The floor will be shorter than the roof and outer turn wall is longer than inner turn radius. So I just use the common wall for runner length as an average of that pair. WIth the square carb pad in the center there is a long set and a short set on each side of a single plane.Plenum volume I used length x width x average height in inches.I don;t know how to completely seal off the plenum from the runners to actually measure its volume. So mine wil be different than Jim's, but here are a few:

I get the long Holley runner at 6.15 average and the short pair at 5.375" average. Holley plenum 51.18 cubic inches. Port entrance (non ported) 2.625x1.02 2.72 sq in.

Torker II 6.5 long pair 5.875. Both side of this manifold are exactly identical. Plenum volume is 73.63 CI.Port entrance 3.0x1.05 3.15 sq in.

Victor 6.875 long pair average, short pair 6.12 average Plenum 67.47 ci. Port entrance 3.0x1.125 3.375 sq in.

Torker original Front runners 6.187 average, rear 5.187 average. Plenum volume is harder without measuring it due to the "volu-step" in the floor that is curved but is close to 52.02 ci. Port entrance front(this has even been modified per HO book) 3.125x.83 2.59 sqin, rear 2.375x1.35 and 3.20 sq in.

On a dual plane you will have a set of short and long runners each plenum half as they cross over to both sides.

LAst one. The Dominator ported ones use a spacer bolted about 1/2 inch forward as that really locates a Holley pattern in the middle of the plenum better.

Thanks Skip for posting the pictures.

I also have a Holly Street Dominator intake that was modified for a Dominator carburetor (cloverleaf opening). As Skip mentioned it has a spacer bolted on and moved forward some.
Of interest, we did back-to-back testing with it and a Victor/Dominator style intake, both used the same 1050 Dominator model 8896HP carburetor. With the the victor/Dominator intake the car ran 10.685 at 126.61 mph (1.578 60-ft) and with the modified HSD/Dominator intake it ran 10.743 at 126.03 mph (1.604 60-ft). Note 60-ft times, the HSD was a little dead out of the hole but picked up in 2nd gear. Both used the same jetting, but I suspect neither was fully optimized as we only made those two runs.
It indicates both types of intakes can run close to each other, but the HSD is easier to fit a big Dominator carb under the hood of a F-body.

I was looking at the intake and thought that the spacer should be moved forward. Im thinking we are going to do that with ours. It really makes things look alot better with the Holley on there.

I have converted one to a Holley square bore pattern by welding up the spreadbore pattern at the carb mounting surface and extending the runners to match. A blended spacer was added and "rolled" into the Plenum. The intake wanst completely finished as i wanted to extend the runners at the floor a little more and add a bit more "meat" to gain a better radius on the leading edge of the runners but ran out of time

I could pull the carb and take a few pics if anyone is interested ???
