Hi guys,

I am looking for a new complete ignition system for my Pontiac and was wondering what you guys recommend. Car is a 65 GTO, 400 30 over, about 13 to 1 compression, Lunati solid flat cam around 540 lift, E-Heads. Looking for suggestions for Distributor, Coil, Plugs, Wires etc. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Mark

I like the MSD Billet distributor with the 6 or 7AL and the Blaster coil. I also use the MSD wires. 5 years--no problems...knock on wood.

What fasteddy said. 6AL if you are street / strip. 7AL if strip only. Can't go wrong. Tried and true.

I've been an MSD fan for years. I'd go with the 6AL, Pro Billet dist, and Blaster 2 coil with that set-up. Hey, that's what I've got too :-)

Go Digital.................Crane (hi-6), Accel (300 plus), or Mallory have really good Digital systems and they are the same price as an MSD 6al system. MSD 6al & 7al systems are so ten years ago! It's like buying a TV with tubes in it.

I have replaced two digital systems with MSD units so far this year. Reliability sucks.

I run std HEI with Proform rebuild kit, and Accel module.. Why??? Cause every one in the tiki klub pits have lost a box at one time or 2 or even 3 times. What made me decide was when one of my best friends, who calls himself the "Finish Line Assasin" Chebbie Camaro, lost one at the ET finals in Indianapolis 3 yrs. ago. I've had HEI to 6200 rpm no problems. "If it dunt make it go faster, then why do we buy em". Consumerism I guess.

I rn & reccomend Mallory products. My Mallory box which is similiar to the 6al box is over 10yrs old & works fine. Nno chips needed the rev limiter is built right in. Mallory has a nice digital box out now that i would like to have.

I think Mallory make some nice Digital Boxes myself. Before I bought my Accel 300 Plus system I was going to buy the Mallory Hyfire VIIC system. A very Kick Butt system!

One of the main reasons I use MSD, aside from reliabilty, is --If you do lose a box, which box do you think is more liable to be available as a loaner at the track? Mallory? Digital Fireball XL5 --nope. I don't know for sure but I would think at least 85% of racers use MSD whether it be marketing hype or not.
