Where is your Rochester date code (sideways on body or straight up on base)? What year bird and what approximate date code do you have? My 69 w/a August/68 code is on base where I heard 68s usually are. Sound right for an early 69 carb?

Date codes on carbs with the Carb number stamped vertically on the carb appears after the part number and is a 4 digit julian date. example; 1040..... the 104th day of 1970.

What I really meant to ask is this: I have 2 different carbs that differ as to the placement of the Julian date code.
1st carb is a 69 quadrajet with a 1/69 Julian date located next to the 7029268 as you described. 2nd carb is also a 69 quad, but this has a much earlier build date of late 8/68 and is stamped straight up (not sideways like the 7029268 on the body on the silver colored base. I heard that many carbs built for 1968 had their Julian dates in this 2nd location on the base and not on the carb body by the Rochester code. And that most built for 1969 put the date code sideways next to the 7029268. So where are the 68 and 69 Julian dates located on your birds? ------------------ Mitch

All 67 original quadrajets had a circular tag with the part number and a letter/number indicating month/year. 67 AFB carbs had the tag on the front screw. 68 original carbs did not have dates on the side where the part number is. They only had a 2 letter code. The dates of the baseplates are found on the baseplate, but may or may not be the actual date of the carb (baseplates could sit on the shelf before actually being assembled to a carb). Starting in 69, all carbs had the Julian dates stamped on the side by the part number. All 67 and 68 replacement carbs manufactured 69 and later would also have the Julian date by the part number. Hope that clarifies things.

When you said 69 carbs had the date next to the part#, do you mean starting 1/1/69? My 69 with a late 68 build date has a carb with date on the base as you described for 68. Is that consistent with your understanding?
