i think there's some difference in the front crossmember.

nope, it'll work. the only difference is if you are putting a convertible frame under a hardtop, you'll need the matching convertible trans crossmember. But this will still work and give you a heavy duty frame optioned hardtop. I just parted out a 71 LeMans hardtop set up like this. vin derivative is stamped on the frame rail, so it spec'd out as a heavy duty frame optioned car from the Pontiac plant.

What kind of 72 is this? Hollander shows 6 different frames for a 72 Tempest, and only 2 will work straight up in the 68.

to clarify, I'm talking 2 dr hardtop frames. 4dr frame will not work. I always assume people are talking about 2dr but a 72 LeMans can come in the 4dr variety.

Ok, that narrows it some...

A 72 HT Tempest frame, exc. 455 is assigned a 1943 Hollander number.
