say i buy 2 rally II rims that have a build date of 10-8-69 (JL)on both of them.how close do the dates on the other two have to be.1 day ,1 week etc.

The rims should all have the same year and day/date code.

Have run across original rally II equipped cars where the date on one or two wheels was a day or two off the remaining two or three. Have seen this with small letter JA's, JL's, & many times when pulling later wheels (HL's, HM's, HW's).
It's nice to have all 4 wheels date matching but considering what many of the "marquis name"national restorers have got away with at Nats in Concours with wheel dating (often the lack of it), would not worry about one or two wheels being the next date produced.
