Default Steering Box

Hello all! I have a '68 GTO and a '71 Chevelle. A friend of mine is parting out a '89 Caprice Police car. I already have the front spindles spoken for, but was wondering about the steering box? Will it fit either of my A-body cars ,aside from changing the pittman arm, rag joint and hoses ( I know it has the "metric" fittings on the box)?

Default Steering box.

It will fit both of your cars. I just rebuilt a 88 box from a Caprice and will be installing it this weekend in my 66. I ordered my parts from Lee Mfg and they have a pitman shaft that will work with your original pitman arm. The shaft is very simple to change also. They have anything you need, including the seats for the lines that will let you use your original lines with no adapters. I used a rag joint from a 81 Chevy pickup but they have that also.

If you need to tear it apart to change any seals use this link. The reassembly is not that hard but the teflon seals can be a little tricky to get in if you decide to use new ones. www.chevelles.com/techref/ftecref29.html

Here is another link that can be helpful www.corvettefaq.com/A-car.asp
