Cool Retractor ?

Hi all
The retrators in my '67 GTO are all rusted and not working. I am pretty sure that whatever was that did the retracting is long gone. I noticed that PY sells a universal, but I would like the original for my car. I was wondering if anybody makes aftermarket, or if not does anybody have a spare one or two to sell? Are the ones in the firebird the same, and will any other years fit?

Thanks Ed

Default Agree with Karl, more info please

Ed, Not sure if you are talking about front retractors, or the rear seat retractors. Someone on here might be selling some, but I've seen both styles on ebay quite a bit. Another route would be to check in Hemmings Motor News and have yours restored. Look under "services" and I think you find listings for folks who restore belts.

Default Belt restorers

Try Ssnake-Oyl Products. They've been around forever, do great restoration work and will make your belts look like new.

are you talking about external add on retractors, or the ones that are integrated into the front seat belts. the add on ones are easy to find on ebay. The integrated ones can usually be repaired by disassembly and replacing the coil spring.

Thanks all for the replies.
They are the front seat belt retractors, that are built in. I took them apart and there is not much left, but I will look to see about a replaceable spring. If so where do I get one. I will also contact snake oil. Thanks again

Keep an eye on ebay, they come up now & then
I think you could use them from 67' Buick and/or Olds.
66' Pontiac should also be the same.
They are not hard to undo & re-set.

Hey Jeff
thanks for the reply. I tried taking them apart, but can't get tension on the spring, something inside keeps slipping. I see sets on e-bay every once in a while, but they are high, and I need blue.

has anyone used ssnake-oyl, and if so what was the price to redo, i really just want the fronts done.

wouldn't worry on color if you remove your belt & swap it over.
Keep tinkering you'll see how it comes apart. It took me awhile, but it can be done.

Ssnake is a great service, but very high dollar on complete sets.
Don't know if they do single componets.
Good Luck.

The end of the spring has a 90degree bend for it to catch in the axle of the belt, and another bend that fits in the notch of the plastic.
From the belts that I have worked with, ususally the 90 bend breaks. You can usually put a new bend in the end of the spring so it won't spin on the axle.
