Default Oil additive content lists for you guy's

Here is some info I stole from another site that will help you choose what additive is right for your ride. Look at the amount of zinc in the EOS, I almost fell down. The Valvoline Synpower has been popular as it contains Molly/ZDDP and couldn't find info on Torco MPZ, seems to be a mystery that these oil tech guy's have avoided.

I can't find the exact post but this will get to where I found the info : http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

Do they have numbers on the "real" STP. The one that's not for four cylinders. Mine all come in a lined cardboard tube with a metal pull-top lid and are blue.

Sam I think the 4 banger stuff is just a smaller bottle. As far as I know we dont have the cardboard cans in the states anymore just the blue plastic bottle which of course doesnt contain the full 16oz like it did for years and years.
I have a couple of the old blue cAns on the shelf but they are 6-7 yrs old.
That stuff made Andy Granitelli a very weathy man.

Also look at the Mobile 1 MX4T motorcycle oil and they don't run cats so the EPA may leave it alone for a wile.

Good info P@blo!!
BTW, I did a search on the purpose of calcium in motor oil - it is an anti-corrosive (prevents acids from eating up the metals).

You now see the reason for the popularity of GM's EOS. I will run it in my engine from now on. If I ever wipe another cam lobe, it won't be from a lack of zinc diphosphate!

calcium is there to give your oil strong bones and prevent oiloporosis.

So what about Mobil 1 or Royal Purple and a flat tappet? add EOS? How much to an oil change?

Mike: lol

Will: Great to hear you could use the lists.

JKrull66: I'm not too sure but will see what I can find for you.

Skip: EOS 1 ounce/quart = +170ppm ZDDP
Synpower: 1 ounce/quart = +45ppm ZDDP
STP: 1 ounce/quart = +35ppm ZDDP

Myself, I use half a bottle of the EOS per oil change and was using full bottles of STP before I found the oil analysis.

Brent

If you look at the analysis on the royal purple oils you'll see it already has a fair amount of zinc already,as well as moly and phosphorus, which makes it pretty much the same as the torco products that have been around for a good many decades already.

Although each in their own ratios, with one or the other having more of a specific emphasis on one or the other element.

So those two oils (royal purple/torco) should be fine as is,no additives needed IMO.

Mobil one seems to be another story entirely.

Pablo,if you do a keyword search on BITOG you'll find more info on the torco stuff, not a lot,but some, seeing as how that's where this came from you should have no problem finding it.

We all learn what we know from somewhere screamingchief, whether it be class, books or other web sites. I never suggested this was info directly from me and my point in posting this stuff is to have the information on this site for easy reference.

Heck if you want I'll say the info came from you but makes no difference to me as my intention was to post this to help people who don't know. This gives anyone the ability to look at the VOA's and decide what oil to use and don't need someone to make recommendations based on their preferences.

enjoy

Bret, me not upset at all and just wanted you to know why I posted this information. Obviously I couldn't have come up with all these oil analyses on my own and should have probably posted the link to where I found it.

I will state it again "the reason I posted the lists was to help someone like me when I first came on to the PY forums and knows nothing about BITOG's site". Or Zinc content in oils for that matter. If I had a problem with others having the info I would have never posted it from the beginning.

As for the scattering of information, I only wanted the cream and bet the moderators would get upset if posted the whole Oil Guy's web site but now you got me thinking...lol

Please reread my last message Bret as I was only trying to explain why I posted this and really didn't care where the information came from. Nor was I trying to get credit for it. For the life of me I don't really understand what the problem is and was only trying to help you and other members.

Yes you have always been a great help and think you may have misread my last post.

I can remember the old Torco and Kendal GT stickers on all the 60-70s race cars.

Looks like we'll get some Royal Purple this weekend for the black thing.
