Default LS1 brake swap and suspension components..

Just completed my swap... wanted to share pictures with you guys....
Used the orginal drum spindle, I had to machine the hub down (minor) to accept the disc and made brackets to move the caliper into place. Found out at my local autostore that hoses from some Ford fitted with a little tweak.
The rear is a complete bolt on swap, no brackets to be made.. they share the same bolt flange on the ends.
Brakes come from '02 WS6 and with the calipers grinded a little and spacers I can run 15" rims on all four corners, I also fitted a C-clip eliminator kit on the ends.. I'am also using the WS6 emergency brake and cables. Wilwood master.

Made my own tubular lower control arms.. chromemolly and tig welded, machined bushings and fitted the some swaybar from SS chevelle under it, I'am using Edelbrock's upper arms, they are very nice and rather cheap.

What a difference in braking distance.. It feels so safe too. So what do you guys think?!?!?!?

Some more detailed pics of the front caliper brackets and mounting would be real nice, maybe even some basic dimensions to help those who would be interested in trying this themselves.

Just a suggestion.

Was there a reason the rear calipers are forward of the axle? I would think e-cable routing may be easier if they trailed and the cables had a straight shot...

Hello again, thanks for the comments.....
My brackets are identical to the brackets these guys built.. I first made a scetch out of thick cardboard and mounted the spindle up with the disc and clamped the caliper to it, easy job.

You could turn them backwards by using the LH parts on the RH side I guess, On the '02 WS6 the calipers are facing front and the cables are extra long... I don't know if the shock is in the way if you turn the whole thing around.. I guess it can be done... I'am happy with it like it is, the cables are not that much of an issue.

The master cylender is Wilwood 1.063" bore

Ohh yeah and I skipped the ABS

Quick question, are you running manual or power brakes? Also was your car 4-wheel drums? And what's up with the brake lines. How'd you hook them up (use stock, aftermarket), I saw you mentioned some ford piece. What exactly was the piece and what vehicle is it from? Sorry for all the questions, I'm gonna be doing the 13" front swap and a 11" LS1 rear brake conversion. I currently have manual 4-wheel drums and trying to get all the info I can for the swap. Thanks

Hi.. I'am running manual brakes.. My car was 4wheel drum car.
The front hoses are from some Ford car, banjo fittings on the caliper and it fits in the original fittings on the car, you know.. the connector on the frame.
On the rear I used the '02 WS6's lines and hoses and changed the fittings on the ends (at the top of the rear-end), where they go into the orginal T-connector on the factory hose in the car. All the factory steel lines are still in the car.

I hope that explained some of your Questions.

That helped me tremendously. I just need to figure out which ford hoses you used lol. My car is also a 4 wheel drum car so this is pretty much the same setup. Which Master Cylinder did you use? Wilwood's part # would be great

Thanks KR! Does the footbrake seem to have enough travel to fully engage the e-brake? Nice pics by the way.

No problem Murf....

The emergency brake worked well (felt like a new GM car, LOL) and pulled hard!

Im really thinking about using the camaro setup on my 67 firebird but since they are bolt on axles from the factory and not c clips, im worried that since the caliper mounting bracket is much thicker than the drum backing plate, it would move the axles out too far for them not to set in the diff correctly. Has anyone had any problems using these on bolt on axles or what is a solution??
