Default GRNMTGOAT's T/A project starts here.

Well, I've been lurking and trying to be helpful for a while,I have a 70 RA3 GTO which I would like to restore but its nice to drive, solution, buy a 70 TA already dismantled!!! Purchased off e-bay on a 'buy it now' didnt have to pay till I saw it.Headed to Cleveland with a trailer,a bit rough [see pics] but I bought it.Stan [owner] bought it in pieces but decided not to proceed.
Got it home and sorted out the parts. A Noorwood car, built 05B, shipped to Jake Sweeny Pontiac 05-29-70. Block 10D ? Heads D100 [one D oneN], Inlet D090, Exhausts D080. Correct vin code PQ T400 and COV REAR. So far so good, whats missing, the carb, air cleaner/shaker and distributor.Needed to look at some 70 cars so took a drive to the nats in Dayton. Prior to this I had contacted the previous owner who dismantled the car 15 years ago and on the way I visited him,he thinks the missing parts are in the garage attic but the carb he sent out for repair and has lost the details,he thinks it went to a guy called John in Missouri. I visited the nats and took many photos, also I asked Carb Doctor [?] if he knew a guy called John in Missouri who rebuilds Quadrajets, probably Jon Hargrove he said. Anyhow back home I googled Jon Hargrove and got a phone # I called him and related my problem, Oh yes, its here on the shelf, I never could trace the owner[he had moved twice]I called the owner and he called Jon to give it to me for what was owed for the rebuild,I VERY quicklly sent the money and now, for $300 have the original 7040270 carb [sometimes you get lucky] I have a date to search the garage in May on my way to the Indy 500. After that I may or may not need a 11120009 disrtibutor and an air cleaner/shaker. Please keep me in mind if you have either of these items,
A bit long but thats the start of my project, thanks for all the good info on this site, Bruce.

GOOD SCORE on the original Q-jet!
The horseshoes must in the right place.
Perhaps you should think about buying some lottery tickets now?

BONUS POINTS for Jon Hargrove.

Bruce,
Great story!

Nice pickup on the car and the parts -- glad to see another one get "rescued"!

Sounds like an A/C car then. What other options?

If nothing else, that's some pretty good detective work.

Wow- that's a project!
Am I correct in that it looks like it was pretty much sitting in a junkyard out in Cleveland? With all of those other wrecks around, it looks like a picture from out of around 1978- definitely not now.
Hopefully that tail panel is in better shape than the pictures make it appear. That's one part that is nearly impossible to find, and pricey if you do.
Great to see another one being rescued!

Just a bit more info, car optioned with, radio p/b,console, mats, pwr windows, door edge guards, decor mouldings, tilt wheel, sun ray all, and air cond.
Managed to trace the mid 80's owner, he lives in Dayton, visited with him, the car had drivers quarter damaged and replaced before he got it and was repainted all white, he got a decal set for it and ended up with a spare set which he thinks are 'out in the shed' if he finds them he will send me them.He was a salesman for Kirby vacuum cleaners and there is still a Kirby decal on the bumper. Car is not too bad, some rust in both front footwells and passenger rear wheel arch, also fender drop offs, trunk is perfect, tail panel is only surface stuff, front valence is good, fenders need a lower patch. I am gathering parts to build a rotissery, can anybody tell me where the balance points are so I dont have to build it adjustable.I guess about a line through the bumper bolt holes at back and about 6'' below top of firewallat front??
Thanks, Bruce.

Jon is a stand up guy to give you that carb for $300 when he hadn't talked to the owner in years.

Good luck with the car.

Default June update

Well, finally, an update. The trip to Indy was a heck of a long drive to see a 166 lap race! 1000 miles each way, however,I'm glad I went.
Spent most of a day in the garage loft of the guy who dismantled the car many years ago. Well worth it, see photos of 'no cost' items.
The distributor is a 1112009 which is correct and I think the steering pump is correct, it has the correct pulley, I knew the shaker was MIA and I have been lucky enough to find and buy a thin lip 70 one, so it was REAL nice to find the air cleaner. I also think I found the second owner so I am nearly back to day one with the cars history. As you may have seen on another post, it is now on a rotissery for the summer.
Unable to find crank pulley 480508XR, but I found the A/C pulley 480509XS
Also unable to find water pump pulley 3939002
If anybody has either of the pulleys I am missing, I will happily purchase them!!
Spent a scrapyard day last week, came up with two plastic inner door handle cups. The work goes on. Regards, Bruce.

Bruce.... yes, I'd say 1000 miles of driving was worth it to get those bits. Congrats, and keep us posted-
