Default New Car Paint Question

How long should you wait before you put wax/polish on a new car?

I know I wait several months for my acrylic lacquer to fully cure before waxing it but do the new factory paints also need that much time?

I have also heard to wait a while but can't give any specifics. I'd find out what brand and type of paint was applied then call your local jobber carrying the stuff and ask them.

At the most I would wait three months.

You're talking about a brand new car, not just a new paint job, correct? If so, the factory 'bakes' the paint on these cars. You can wax it anytime. Some are waxed at the dealership (extra cost 'paint sealant or paint protection'). But you could do as I have; I bought a new GMC Denali over 6 years ago and I haven't waxed it yet! It stays under a carport, and looks almost as good as new.

These factory BC/CC paints don't require much maintaince unless severely used.

Agreed!! The paint is baked on. My 2000 SSEi Bonneville never saw wax and looked very good when we traded it for a 2007 Grand Prix. Wax looks great on cars that were towel dried with a dirty towel with a lot of surface scratches. If you're careful, no wax necessary.
