Default 78 Formula Question

Hi, not a second gen expert and wondered if it was possible to get the 403 in a Formula in 78? Also, what does the limited edition designation signify? Is it just a trip package or is there a performance element? Thanks for your help

The answer to your question about 403-cid Formula is yes. Pontiac produced 11,968 Firebird's with UPC code L80 403-cid engine during the 1978 model year. Of those it appears 10,059 were Trans Am's and 1,909 were Formula's

I am not aware of a limited edition Formula for 1978.

Hope this helps,

John

First, thanks very much for the info. My curiosity arose from the fact that I went to look at a car that had been advertised on Craigs List yesterday. The ad with no pics said it was a 1978 Formula Limited edition with a 403. I thought it just possible that the guy had a TA Special Edition, but didnt know it. His english was really limited over the phone so I went to see the car. It was in fact a Formula in Blue with T tops. It had limited edition badging on it and all the original decals etc. Just got curious about the Formulas not really being a second gen guy. Thanks again for the info

Do you have any pics?

Possibly it's a 'Blue Bird' (Skybird) edition? That would be an Esprit, though.

Sorry John, didnt take any pics, but it wasnt an Esprit. I did a little reading up on the bluebird, redbird stuff before I left to look at it. It was definitely a Formula, had all the badging and the hood as well. The part I didnt know about was that you could get a 403 in a Formula and now I do. The only other thing that im curious about is what is a "limited edition" havent found any literature on it anywhere.

It could just be that a previous owner put on the badges that i've seen in the parts stores.

I agree with Mr. W72, the Olds 403 was available in the '78 Formula. As far as I can tell there was no "special edition" Formula produced in any year, unless you count the W50(correct code???) gold trimed cars.
