Default Why did you buy your year car?

Did you fall into it, or search it out, or???

I personally have wanted a 1967 muscle car for at least the past 20 years. The make wasn't super important, but growing up mostly GM I was leaning towards a 67 Chevelle, I had a 68 way back, but always dug the 66-67 body.

I was born in 67 so that was my reason. I got my 67 LeMans a couple months ago. Found it on Craigslist awhile back, and finally I offered the guy a 79 Vette in trade, he accepted and let me tell you, I got the better end of the deal. I fell in love with this black beauty at first site!

This is why I own my year car,
Scott

Cool

I went a similar route... I have always been a Pontiac fan and my first 2 cars were a 68 GTO convertible and a 69 Firebird.... Untill recently I have had my assortment of numerous cars, all muscle cars. To this day I have never found a reason to buy a new car, always kept to the classics.
I was looking for a car to replace my 69 Buick Sport Wagon 400 after it was destroyed a few years back and ran across an add in the auto trader for a 66 Catalina Wagon. I instantly called, drove out to look at it and picked it up, wothout hesitation! Then, like you I just had the urge to just buy 66's as it is my birth year.
I always keep my eyes out for that year but wanted something a little different.. Well I love the BIG cars so I found a 66 GP a few years ago and bought it too. I ended up selling it because of a move and no time to work on it. then last year I found my 66 Catalina Coupe locally and well, I had to have it! Not to mention I got a smokin deal on it.
Now the goal is to have one of each ot the big car models Pontiac made in 66.

The quest is on! I have 2 and counting.
Here they are, so far...

I have always loved the 2nd gen TA's and actually owned the trans am i have now about 10 years ago. Unfortunately i sold it because i was young and dumb. I found it again three years ago sitting in a guys garage just about ready to be towed to the junk yard. Offered the guy some cash and its back home again where it belongs. I don't think i'll make the mistake of parting with it again. I would love to find a 68-70 GTO but this car holds alot of sentimental value to me.

I had a 68 in 86 when I was in the Marine Corps stationed in Cali. I thought it would cost too much in gas to bring it back to Florida so I sold it. in 2000 I was in search of a decent 1970, my favorite and had no luck. Found my current 68 in the old car trader just 4 hours from my house. I still want a 70 and would kill for a 70 pro Street.

The '73 Le Mans just fell into my lap. Two years ago I was looking for a car for my son who turning 16.
My brother had done some work for an elderly and she gave him the car as payment. The engine was seized and my brother was going to junk it for $75.00.
My son and I rescued it and rebuilt the engine and trans. He drove it throughout high school and was very proud to have one of few "old school cars"
My son is now 18, attending college and working as a grocery store clerk. He saved his money and (mine) and bought a '70 Firebird last December. It has a tired 350 which we plan on replacing with a 400 or 455 in the next few months.
Once we are done with Firebird it looks like I'll take over finishing up the restoration of Le Mans. That's how I'm ending up with a 73 LeMans.

BTW:It has been a great way to spend time with my son.

My 64 is somewhat of a hand me down, my brother bought it in 79 and drove the crap out of it. lost his license in 81 and I trailered it around from barn to basement garage, until it reach my place in 91, I made a shed for it which it stayed in for 5 years then I purchased it from bro and then rest is history. Now it's a littel closer to seeing the road again.

When I bought my '65, California required bi-annual smog checks on 1966 and newer models, plus '65's have the best lines (IMHO).

Not to mention that they're lighter, and a longer wheelbase, than later years, and I got it for $325 (less a battery).

Default 78 Trans Am

I fell in love with the 77-78 Trans Am after seeing Smokey & the Bandit. It was the first and one of the few car models I ever built. I bought mine in 1992 in Oklahoma. I already owned a 79 T-top Z-28 but always wanted a 77-78. I paid $750 for mine. It's was beat up, gutted and used for racing (like now). I will never get rid of it but would like to find another 77-78 for a driver. A/C included...

We were stationed in Hawaii at Pearl and needed a second car for commuting. Checked out the "used car lot" on Hickham and saw a 65 Corsa convertible and the one in my avatar. It was a hard choice as they were both the same price, but decided to take the newer one. Ya gotta have a 'vert in Hawaii, right? Anyway, this was in 76, and she's still parked in my garage. We've done four tops, three paint jobs, and a new interior along with engine and transmission work. She is not restored; we've only maintained her and done what was necessary to keep her on the road and looking good. Unfortunately, I'm looking a new paint -- again -- but this time it will be down to metal -- there's to much weight with the paint on there now. I expect to gain an extra second at the drags . Oh yeah, one of us may be buried with her.

Back in the mid 80's when I was in high school I fell in love with musclecars, GTO"s in particular. I didn't care what year just wanted a GTO. After looking at a bunch of cars I found my 70 conv. It was in great shape and at a price I could afford at the time. Twenty one years later, and I still have it.

Ive always had a thing for a 66 A body. The whole car is the perfect package for me.

The wife and I were driving out to dinner on our anniverary about 5 years ago and I asked if we could stop at this old car dealer on the way. Once in the lot, befroe we even got out of the car, she said "were not buying anything". I new that because we didnt have the money.

We got into the showroom and it was exactly the car that i would have liked to build. It was a straight as any show car. After scooping my jaw off the ground I sat in the car. We were there only 5 minutes when she said "Buy it". How could I argue? I got finaincing a couple of days later and drove it home.

Now that were getting divorced, the first thing out of my mouth was, I m not selling the car. She agreed and Im keeping it free and clear. That car will never leave my side.

Sorry to hear about your divorce Paul, but glad you are keeping the car.

Grew up riding in a 65 Bonneville. When I turned 16 my stepdad would not let me have it. I saw a Catalina and liked the shorter body. But everything else was the same. So nostalgia has to be it.

I always liked the stacked head lights on 65, 66, 67 A bodies. I wanted a performance car and so the GTO was my choice of car. It was a good choice to, great car, besides i am a GM guy at heart.

My brother and I bought our first Firebird just after we turned 17. It was a 1980 Firebird Esprit with 96000km's on it and we got it from the original owner. I had always liked the style of the 2nd Gen T/A's and a few years after I wrecked that one, my buddy was selling his 1979 since he lost interest; I have owned that car for 5 years now.

Fell into it.

The mother of one of my son's friends came over to pick up her son one day. We were just BS'ing for a few minutes and somehow we ended up talking about cars. I mentioned that I'd like to get an old muscle car some day. She said they just happened to have an old muscle car they needed to sell. They were moving and couldn't afford to take it with them. All she could tell me about it was that is was an early '70s Firebird. I've always been fond of early 2nd gen f-bodies, and when I finally saw the car a few days later I did one of these.

I was not expecting to find a '70 Trans Am.
