Default Exterior door lock ideas needed

I am doing a trim job for a friend and ha has run into a problem. He had a custom front door built that is 2&1/2 inches thick!
Door has already been hung and bored for cylindical lock and deadbolt.
As far as I know, no one makes a cylinder lock for anything over 2&1/4 inches.
Other than mortising the locks into the door does anybody have any ideas?
The door cannot be planed down to 2&1/4".

I had one on My old house the door was VERY old @150 yrs. I could no find anything to fit except the handleand lever/pushbutton type. and a dead bolt. Very pricey too. I think it was like $350 about 8 years agoI got it from a local lumberyard. as the big stores(Home deopt, menards) didnt carry anything like that.
Good luck

You can probley order one from one of the big box lumber yards.

But I would check with a lock smith in your area. If they don't have one they should know who does.

We have contacted the major lock companies( Baldwin, Schlage, etc.) No one makes a cylinder lock for a door that thick. If it had not been bored for them I could have used an old style rim lock(skeleton key type).
As it is I will probably make a template and bore the door 1/8" on both sides and recess the escutcheon into the door.
I was hoping there would be another way because if I am off a little bit it won't work!
And, before Y'all say it, I know I'm off alot!

You might check at a place called Kwiklocks (quicklocks?).com. I have bought from this guy a number of times. He has a very big selection, good prices & is great to deal with. It has been a few years since my last purchase. Hope he is still around.

I got a call from my friend this evening. He thinks he has found someone who can order him a lock to fit.

Try Medeco, I've heard they make a lock suitable for thick doors.

Yes I agree, Medeco should have what you are looking for. You can also try calling manufactors of COMMERCIAL doors. They are meant to be thicker than residential doors and could definitely steer you in the right direction.

Default Lockhouse.com

I was just purchasing from this place (used to be Kwiklocks.com) and saw that they have a number of options for 2 1/2" doors. Only $3 extra for this option. Lots of brands. I was looking at Emtek when I saw the option. Hope this helps. Have enjoyed dealing with these guys in the past

I want to thank everyone for their help. I think my buddy has found a lock set already.
I have never dealt with a door this thick. It has 5 6" ball-bearing hinges on a standard height door. And the hinges have dowels on both sides that add to the security.
But, 3' away is a standard door that one good kick would take out!
