compression and leakdown
Can I do a compression check and then a leakdown test while the intake is off? It's for a '92 with TPI SBC. I don't see why not but maybe I'm overlooking something.

Yes, you can. It makes it really easy to tell if any intake valves are leaking!

Yes you can however these tests are typically done with engine at operating temperature, like just shut off. Numbers cold may not be as objective.
