Could be a LOT of things. Get a stethoscope from sears or something and start to narrow it down. At what point did the ticking start. Since you just did some top end work, start there.

How exactly did you start adjusting the valves? From what you describe, it does sound like a valvetrain noise, not a rod knock.

A fast tick sounds like either a lifter or a possible slight exhaust leak from the header/ exhaust manifold.

it started making noise once i broke a pushrod on #2 exhaust so i pulled the valley pan and luckly both pieces were there. i inspected the cam for wiped lobes or bad lifters and they are fine no damage to them. i adjusted the valves by running the engine warmed up and backing off the poly-locs til the rocker started to rattle then tightening it till it stopped then another 1/2 turn, then locked them down. could it be a bad pcv vlave? i never replaced it and is a stock pcv good for an engine with a large cam?

Like Cerino said, get a stethoscope. Or, you can use a long screwdriver with your thumb over the end of the handle. Carefully put the blade on the rocker stud and then place your ear against your thumb. It works almost as good as a stethoscope. I'd check the #2 exhaust, I think you might have a sticking valve and that's why the pushrod broke.

No, a stock PCV valve isn't good for a big cam. You need one for at least a RAIV or a 70LT1 if it's the same size as the original.
