Default used flywheel question

i replaced my used flywheel from my 70 judge with a centerforce one when i rebuilt the motor.... is it worth while throwing it on ebay or should i just scrap it? it's been machined at least once i'm not sure how much, and right now it should be machined again.....

Yak
I'd be interested in your old flywheel . Does it fit the old style crank 68-70?
Let me know i'm looking for one with 10.4" clutch.
Thanks

Using old flywheels is not a good idea because of the wear on the ring gear more than any other issue.

New ring gears cost half the price of a new flywheel; and that doesn't include installation if you can't do it yourself.

I have new ring gears, old flywheels, new flywheels, ruined mini starters, and small amount of experience on this subject the hard way

New flywheels are the way to go; without question. And if you want to move past the worn ring gear issue; get into the fatigued metal issue of 40 year old 200,000+ mile units and see what kind of damage occurs with massive flywheel failure.

i put it on ebay. 260207860342 is the auction number, my car only has 67000 miles on it,all it needs is a slight machining job done on the flywheel face so that a new clutch would have a nice new surface to work on.... and the ring gear is like brand new still. i should say the flywheel has 67,000 miles on it.

flywheels need scattershields anyway. but if you get 200,000 miles out of a flywheel, it deserves to fall apart since the clutch discs are long gone or throwout failed. That is not likely even if it is 40 year old. They do not fall apart due to age, metal heat fatigue and abuse are the reasons they fail. Ring gear is often an alignment issue or bad starter bushing or poor nose piece casting.

Does anyone know of someone's old flywheel blowing up. Talking about standard street once in awhile down the drag strip type car?
Not a true blow out drag car!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Got both my new Hayes flywheel and a replacement ring gear from McLeod today; very noticeable teeth difference from the stock flywheel.

All three of the old stock flywheels have similar looking teeth; but I’m going out on a limb here and going to claim my flywheel failure from the mini starter was due to worn factory ring gears. I know the factory gears may not have looked like Hayes or McLeod from the start, but the teeth were probably more squared like these.

Now waiting on Robb’s starter.

changing a ring gear on a flywheel is easy, all you need is a hammer punch and someway to warm up the new ring gear to get it on the flywheel.....as long as a new one is still available but it should be...
