Power steering pulley with A/C
My parts book says the power steering pump pulley for 71-2 is not serviced and doesnt give a part# for it. Im working on a car that appears to be a 71-2 motor with the 481040 water pump pulley but its minus all the power steering stuff(pump,brackets,pulley,alternator etc.)
Parts book does give a dimension of 6.25 inches but I would like more info to try and match it up and or substitute for something close. |

Going through this myself right now & I can tell you that all the bracket s were changed
in 1971, and the part numbers changed again in 1972.. From the Pontiac GTO Restoration Guide 1964-1972 it shows the following part numbers: Power steering Pump part # is 7811290 rear pump bracket #483304 1971 & #485992 1972 bolts to cylinder head front bracket #482195 attaches to pump & Alt bracket Alt brackets front part # 9790604 1971 & #485993 in 1972 rear 485181 Some of the parts I have had numbers stamped in them some didn't... going thru a few buckets of parts to see if I have all the brackets for 71 or 72
PS and alt mounting. so far not having much luck with the part#s stamped on them or the fact that they werent marked when pulled 30+ years ago. I found the thread that Ransom posted with pix so Ill use that to sort out the 71 stuff. anyone have the 71 and 72 stuff that they could take a pic of with both side by side? Lazlo, that bracket # is 970640 and is a 71 only part Last edited by Cammer-6; 02-07-2008 at 01:35 PM. |

All I found for a PS pulley was a 75-9 one #496411
I know the # isnt the same as the 71-2 but diameter appears to be about the same. anyone try this before? Ransom was the pics you took for a 71 with 80 amp alt? |

[QUOTE=engineer]how is this?
thanks for the pic I found all the brackets for a 71 system in my bucket of parts,but couldnt get the pump reservoir from the pump I had(unknow year banjo style) to fit due to the return line hitting the rear bracket that attaches to the head.Now that I see your pic of a 72 still using the rounded banjo type pump reservoir Im really wondering if they made more than one return line routing. |
